Battle change from traditional?

Been thinking of alternatives lately with the mass flow of awsome plugins such as Galv's projectiles etc.


Had been considering trying a simplified battle system in my project by having hostile events attack you overworld- although this would require massive effort to implement enemy A.I for events in terms of attacking/reloading/dying/HP cover etc. I am still going for the normal RPG sideview battle because I feel the player's levelling up and skills must be utilized to make it interesting- but I feel that having overworld fighting sort of like the game 'true lies' for example.


What do you folks reckon would be fun?

Here's some ideas based on Thea: the Awakening handling this:


-Your characters have a big variety of stats like Strength, Charisma, Herbalism etc.


-Hostile situations can involve tracking (find the villain's lair), endurance (make it out of a room with poison gas), negotiation (convince a witness to give you info) and others.


-Each situation requires a different stat for HP (like Focus for tracking or Spirit for social) and dealing damage (like Dexterity for stealth or Medicine for healing), with some other stats giving you bonus skills depending on the area (Intelligence in a social encounter could give you an attack debuff, for instance).


This way, you can handle a wide variety of situations with the same combat system - of course, battle encounters would still be a thing.

 I say go for it, you get this great sense of accomplishment when you finish something or set up something such as a battle system. I know that for my game, but the full battle system will not work at all. So I'm working on an evented battle system myself - it's a lot of work, but your game will shine because of it.

It depends on how you want the game to play as a whole, you need to think if the battle system you're putting on will work together with the other systems of the game. Always think of your game as a whole when deciding what systems to implement because they need to have coherence.

so hopefully tomorrow i get to go home from the hospital i've been here for 5 days already and it's driving me mad. I miss my family like crazy but at least I get to use my own toiletries and my own clothes. My mom is coming to visit soon i can't wait to see her cause i miss her the most. :kaojoy:

Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
