Battle Processing Event and Change Party Member

Hello all,

I'm having an issue with trying to add in my main character after the beginning of my opening cut-scene.  I set up my game without an initial party. The starting location that I designated is on a different map.  My game starts with a black screen and scrolling text in the middle.  After the text is finished scrolling and I press enter, the screen fades white into a different map where a series of events occur between an event I have set up as a representation of my main character and two other events which represent monsters.  After these events transpire, the event that represents my main character runs towards the two events that are monsters.  A battle processing event then occurs.  The battle screen pops up as I have set it up to and I press enter.  After I press enter, the screen goes black and it returns me to the previous map.  I am not able to engage in battle with the two monsters on the battle screen.  I am currently trying to make it so that I can gain control over my main character as soon as the battle begins.  My question is how do I do so.  I've tried setting up a specific troop within the database and adding an event in there so that it would add in my main character, but to no avail.  Does anyone have any suggestions for me?  I'm sure this is something simple, but being that I'm relatively new to this program it has me stumped.

Sounds like you're doing it the hard way.

You don't need to start without a party (and in fact that isprobably why your battle processing won't start - how can your party battle when it has no members?)  - add your starting member(s) to your party and check the box for Transparency in the System tab of the database.  This means you HAVE a party to start with, but they can't be seen.  When you're ready for your PC to be seen, just use the Change Transparency event command.  

I'm not sure why you're using "an event to represent the player" - why not just use the player?  If the cutscene event is set to Autorun, the player will not have any control over the character until the cutscene ends.

Thanks, that solved my problem.  Now I just need to figure out why I can't move my character:/

Either the autorun controlling the cutscene is still active, or the tilesets passability for the map is broken
If you try to move, does the sprite turn in the direction of the move?


yes - passability problem


no - autorun active

No, so it's an autorun issue then, so how do I turn the events off so it will allow me to move my character?  I done my research on this earlier and tried everything I could think of that would turn off the event and nothing worked successfully.

at the end of the autorun event, you use a control self-switch command to turn ON a previously unused self-switch.


Then you add another event page, where you place that same self-switch as a condition (NOT as a conditional branch, it needs to be a page condition).


Finished.


But it is important that you don't change anything else on that page (unless you want the autorun still be grafically visible, but most people don't want that). Especially the content needs to remain empty, and the trigger needs to remain action button.


The same techniques is also needed to switch off parallel map events, as both autorun and parallel process automatically loop on the map.

The other possibility is that you can TURN your character with the arrow keys, but not actually move them. If that is the case, you have either changed the top left tile on the B tileset so the passability is no longer set to a star (that one NEEDS to be a star), or you have set the floor tile to be impassable, or you are using a tile for the floor that should not be used for the floor.
