Hey everyone! Brand new to the engine and the community, and I am currently working on my very first project. I designed a very simple bed event to allow the player to sleep and rest within their bedroom, but I have run into a bit of a problem. Simply put, the player cannot walk onto the bed, despite it being set to "below player". I have attached a screenshot of the event's single event page; can someone tell me either how to make the player able to walk on the event, or another approach to this problem that might be a little more reasonable? I have to get back to work until 4 PM EST, but I will look for replies later. Thanks so much in advance for any help!

EDIT: RMVXA is the engine, forgot to mention that before.

What is the tile below the event? If that tile is impassible, the player will not be able to move there no matter what the event is set to.

I can't see your image on my phone because it's a bitmap. You have a jpg file to show?

You might be having a similar issue I had when placing a bridge event over a river ala FF1. My error was that I had Through checked which made the bridge adopt the river's movement restrictions. Unchecking that allowed my bridge to be passable. I'm on MV but this may still apply. Of course, if your event uses an impassable tile then that might not help you.

The tile below the event is the same wooden floor displayed in the rest of the room. The player is indeed able to move over it in all other instances.

sorry, but something is blocking the player movement, and it can't be the event you've screenshot.

Either you're wrong about the tile, or there is a script or another event interfering.

You'll have to check everything until you find that other cause.

I'd have to agree with Andar. Have you tried moving the event to a different part of the map and then trying it? Also, are you sure you are walking onto the head of the bed? Just because you made the head of the bed the event graphic, the rest of the bed would still not be passable.

If you are still having issues with the event, instead of placing it "Below Character", you can make it "Same As Character" with the trigger being "Action Button". This way, the player doesn't look like they are physically standing on the bed when they activate the event, but instead it will look like they are beside the bed, which IMO, makes it look a bit more normal.

Sorry for the crap formatting; on my phone and it's doing weird stuff without my permission; can't even reply without quoting, and then it quotes everything, not just the person I am trying to.

The bed event tiles are just event tiles; underneath them is a wooden floor from indoor tileset A, the default, which is set to passable and indeed IS passable everywhere else. A script could possibly be to blame, though I have none that should be effecting tile passability whatsoever. I could do the same-level fix suggested, but frankly I want to figure this out as is just for the sake of figuring it out, lol.

Ya, I totally understand that, I would do the same thing. From all the info you have provided so far, though, there should be absolutely no problem. I would try a couple things (off the top of my head):

  •  one of them I already mentioned: try moving the bed event to a different position on the same map (just in case)
  • try making a whole new bed event somewhere else on the same map (don't copy and paste)
  • try moving the event to a different map altogether, even if it's out in a field or dungeon
  • try changing the graphic on the event

One last thing, I just tried in my game: If the graphic you are using is marked with an 'X', even if the event itself is set as "Below Character", you will still not be able to walk on it. So check the passability setting on the Bed graphic.

Please follow the link to "bughunting" inmy signature, it will give you some additional info on why things may happen and where to look for the cause.

I would maybe suggest try mapping the bed with both parts of the bed tile set to O and then using an event with a blank graphic.

Fear not i have the answer for your trouble.

If you select a Maptile as Eventgraphic (The Bed) and if you choose "below Char/Player", than the Event will use the passability settings set in the tileset for this Tile.

Mark "through" option also and it should work if the underground is passable.

Back in action to develop the indie game that has been long overdue... Final Fallacy. A game that keeps on giving! The development never ends as the developer thinks to be the smart cookie by coming back and beginning by saying... "Oh bother, this indie game has been long overdue..." How could one resist such?
