So, my sister and I have been working on this part of the game for quite some time, both of us beginners with RPG Maker MV, and we can't seem to fix the issue we're having. I'll do my best to explain and show the screenshots of the event pages here. ANY HELP IS APPERCIATED, because I thought I got it, but then I didn't, and I'm just getting frustrated with it.

Thanks so much for taking the time to even read through this thread, it's apperciated.

So what's supposed to happen is there a cauldron that, with a purple berry that can be picked up, makes it a magic potion and it changes colour. There is a crate with a glass bottle in it, that also can be picked up, that is supposed to bottle the potion AFTER the berry is placed in the cauldron. It just doesn't seem to want to work though. When I start the game up, it just skips over the berry part completely, asking if the player wants to bottle the potion, before the berry or bottle has even been picked up.

Any direction is greatly appreciated by my sister and I. Thanks for taking the time to read a newbies problem!

It's skipping the berry because tab 4 has no conditions. The game looks at the event pages from the highest number to the lowest, and as soon as it finds one where all the conditions are met, or where there are no conditions, it makes that the active page.

What is meant to move the event from page 3 to page 4? I suspect you could delete page 3 and set Self Switch A as the condition for page 4.

You also have a Select Key Item command, but you don't do anything to check what item was selected. I'm assuming this is where the player is meant to choose the empty bottle. You should have a condition to see if variable 6 was set to the item number for the bottle (without any leading zeros), and only remove the bottle and add the potion if they chose the correct item. Otherwise, they could place the berry, then choose ANY key item and it would give the purple potion, even if the player had never picked up the bottle from the crate.

if you are compleetly new, did you do the inbuilt tutorial to know the basics?
there are serveral parts where you can improve it as well, if you search some
tutorial how variables, events, items and pages works effectively, you can
make it smoother as well.

as you check variable 6 for the key item, you never tell if the item is correct
or not, so why do you made "Select Item" without any conditional branch?

Select Item is ment to use a conditional branch and check for the "item ID"
to store in your variable 6 you use, if they chooses the "glass bottle",
remove it, and make a purple potion, otherwise, show a text or something
else like:

text: you cannot use this item here

or something else in the else hander if using one to point to a hint.

I got the issue sorted out, thanks to you both!!! Thanks very much for the helpful advice. I'll definitely try the ingame tutorial out - I've just been watching youtube videos, but I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around it. I'll do my best to improve!

simply watching a video (or simply reading a tutorial) is almost always a waste of your time.

To really learn something, you have to work through the tutorials - which means starting a scrap project just to replicate everything that the tutorial describes and see for yourself how that works and where you can make mistakes.

The last one will happen regularly, especially if you only use video tutorials - because video tutorials will always skip on detailed explanations due to time restrictions, you don't have fifty-hour-videos as tutorials.

I've been working furiously on a small demo slice. But with King Slime so busy assets have been slow to form. No matter! I've got the demo for rpgmaker MZ and I'm using the 20 days to make a short and sweet demo game of fighting alongside your rival/boyfriend hehe Kind of like a mini challenge to myself
Yes my images are back ^^, hopefully they won't disappear again.:kaoangry:
It's Sunday. Stop working and take a break. Relax a little.
Ooops ended up trying out making my own A2 tile page instead of testing doors everywhere. Went well so far I think.
I guess I'm done making a blue squirrel's life difficult for posting new threads on different forums.
That's just for today so don't get used to this, squirrel-ish friend! :p
