For a beginning game developer, the best battle system is the default battle system - don't use battlescripts at all.

Because you're correct, script use is not for a begining user, and battlescript can be the most complex scripts to configure.

What Andar said. That being said, however, I personally didn't like the default battle system. I grabbed Yami's Symphony system right off the bat and took the time to learn to use it - it's not too complicated, and there's a lot of support for questions about it on the forum.

Then one other question: How much do you know of programming yet?

Scripting in RPG Maker is the same as programming in Ruby. And you can't learn how to program anything overnight.

Battlescripts are the most complex scripts of them all - to the point that most scripters refuse to program them even for a paid commission, and the people who offer battlescript commissions do that only for x00 $.

If you have no previous programming knowledge, then you can expect about half a year of hard learning at minimum before you'll be able to program your own battlescript - if you have to work on a job to pay your bills at the same time, make that one year minimum.

Ruby is one of the more easier programming languages - if you already know the basics of programming, then you should be able to read the code with no problems and be able to write it with a little work.

Battlescripts still are the more complex parts, but if you search the learning ruby forum here you should find several tutorials on how to design battlescripts.

However, there is no "easiest" battlesystem. You need to decide for yourself what features the battlescript should have, and that determines the difficulty: the more features you want in it, the more work it will be.

And to decide what you want - best play half a dozen games with different battlesystems for a few hours each, then decide which battles you liked most.

Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
