best jRPGs you've played with single character party

I suppose most people haven't played many jRPGs where you only have a single player in your party (the main character) - and no one else. But have you ever played any jRPGs like this, and if so, were any of them memorable? Which ones?

I don't think any exist.

Edit: It turns out one does exist. The first dragon quest is single player. I watched some gameplay of it some time ago but it doesn't seem all that interesting.

I've played Drakengard 2 on the PS2. You don't necessarily have just "one" character in the party but there's only one player on the battlefield against waves of enemies with puzzles and dungeons happening all at once. You can switch out characters mid-battle though.

I haven't played Drakengard 3, but you play as one character throughout the entire game but you'll have "followers" (I guess if that's what you wanna call them) fighting alongside you, but you can't control them.

They're both really good though. Dragons and stuffs with all the good good.

The Ys's games, you play with Adol only, except in Origin, there you have multiple characters to choose from.

I shall look deeper into it when i have more time.

Sheesh... The only one I can really think about that I've played is Lisa: The Joyful, and even then you still have Rando to tag along with you for the first few bosses.

Typical turn based? None. But if you go to an ABS type system, then the Y's series. All of them I've played so far (Origins and one other) had only one character.

I wouldn't say best (more like only one I played) and it's Guardian's Crusade, the game really has only one character, your pet is in your party with you but he isn't controllable.

Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII

I've never played it (always wanted to though), but from what I've seen, you play ONLY as the MC- Lightning.

I was doing some research on games for whatever reason and LRFF13 came to mind for this thread.

Some may disagree with me, but I would say the remakes of Dragon Quest 1 or Undertale (if you count that). Dragon Quest 3 or 9 if you count solo runs.

There was a good rpg maker game that I played with a single character but I can’t remember the name at the moment...

Breath of the Wild if we're talking most recent 1 player rpgs.
