Best options for binding pictures to layers via plugin commands?

What a wild west this issue is!

I was wondering what everyone uses for binding pictures to map in MV in layers, via a plugin call. I haven't had any success getting this functionality working. I'm using MV 1.4.1.

Although Orange Overlay works via map calls, I have not been able to get the plugin command to function via an event on that map. It just straight up doesn't function, at least with this version of MV, and Hudell unfortunately is no longer supporting it. I have many images which need to show up on various layers when the player does stuff on the map, and not having that functionality is kinda crippling right now :LZSsad:

OcRam's layers plugin promises this functionality but I similarly can't seem to get the plugin call working. I've done as much experimentation as my skill level allows -- this plugin is daunting but as far as the plugin command goes, I was sure I was doing it as prescribed and the picture just isn't showing.

Using the plugin master list functionality hasn't revealed any solutions, and if you google this issue it turns into this bizarre circular wild goose chase. As plugins go, this seems like rather core functionality, and I know that others surely have gotten pictures to bind to map on layers via plugin calls, and I was hoping those who have this working could let me know what they're using successfully.

to use ocrams, you must have MV 1.6.1/1.6.2
there are others can do the trick as well, but those require MV 1.5.1 or higher to work.

you can either update MV and your project to 1.5.1 or to the latest 1.6.x.

else the best way is to use the picture command and use erase event.

Thanks for the help Shadow. I'm stuck at 1.4.1 due to my project failing in undiagnosable ways when I attempt to migrate to newer versions. I'll give it another shot, I haven't tried in a year or so.

In the meantime, would you know offhand of some 1.5-compatible plugins that might do the trick?

I know RPG MV sinds 1.5.1, but later I started with 1.6.1, so I dont know for sure.
I cant help you on that part though.

always make a backup before upgrading to a new version or download the stand alone and use it
next to 1.4.1 just to check if everything works, if now, you can always use 1.4.1.

or see if someone else can help you that has a lower version of MV.

Why don't you just post a link to the plugin you're already using (Hudell's) and see if someone can help you make it work from events?

https://galvs-scripts.com/2015/10/30/mv-layer-graphics/ allows you to bind static sprite layers with the plugin command....
LAYER_S MAPID ID GRAPHIC X Y OPACITY Z BLEND
...followed by the plugin command....
LAYER REFRESH
....after you're done specifying whatever graphics you want to add.

It's not what I use, but what I use is a lot more complicated so I'd say give that a try and see if it works for you.
