Best program for an action RPG

Hello everyone. I wanted to get back to making, and would like to know which program is best for action RPG, similar to secret of mana, illusion of gaïa and such. I bought RMVX a while ago, but I'm not good with scripting, and saw new releases, IG and GG maker, aswell as RM MV. Thanks in advance for answers.

I personally am liking MV for many reasons. Bigger and sharper graphics, adapatability for different OSes, faster performance and better scripting features.

GG Maker is no longer part of the Degica family of programs


There is no ABS script/plugin for MV yet, but there are several in development - might take several months before any of them is ready however, and until then there is no way to make an action RPG in MV.


IG Maker might be usable, but it is also not optimized for it and I can't suggest it in good conscience.


Your best bet for an ARPG so far is VX Ace using one of the existing ABS-scripts, or wait half a year until MV has ABS plugins, or search for an entirely different engine elseqhere.

Sorry, Engine 001/GG is the only and best Action RPG creator (It's very, very good once you get into it and you don't have a PC like mine where it crashes all the time) so use that.

DON'T BUY IG MAKER! Unless you speak french you will find VERY little in the way of support and help/tutorials. I bought it and I am starting to think the only thing it will be good for is the resources (assuming the license doesn't bar me from using them in RM). And GG Maker is no longer associated with the company that owns RM. le sigh.

IG Maker doesn't get a lot of support and is a lot harder to use than RPG Maker if you're trying to do the same things, and as Andar said, GG Maker isn't part of the Degica suite of programs anymore, so you would not get support for that here either.  So the only one we could recommend, that you would get good support from here, is MV.


However, Andar indicates there are no action scripts for MV yet, so you may already have the best option.  If there's a reason you don't want to use VX, have a look at Ace - there will likely be scripts for that.  If you don't want to use scripts at all, then MV probably won't help you either, because you could only add it to MV with scripts (plugins), though they are somewhat easier to apply than RGSSx.

Didn't Quasi release an ABS plugin? I distinctly remember seeing and using it at one point (though that was a test project, and I deleted it).

He has not yet completed his project, but is diligently (last I knew) working on it. It was looking really cool.
