RPG Maker Forums

Hi everybody, because i want to make some unique sprite sheets & tileset i have tried out several software out there, but each software has its pro & cons

So i want to open this topic to talk about these Software & what they're lacking of

* Photoshop:

Pro:

- Well, almighty software for drawing/ editing Sprites

Cons:

- Unless you're an artist, i doubt you can make great sprites from scratch. Also alignments/ animation testing is not comfortable for making big sprite sheet such as

RPG MV Sideview battler

* Spriter:

Pro:

- Free version available.

- There are Bone/ Keyframe system, good for animation

Cons:
- Doesn't have graphic editing function

- Bugs here & there

* Anime Studio:

- Awesome animation software

Cons:

- Expensive

- I doubt it supports Pixel Graphic :p

- Not a good choice especially on working with low frame rate sprites

* Spine

Pro:

- Nice UI

- Same to Spriter but better

Cons:

- Not free

- I didn't test this software long enough

* PyxelS

Pro:

- Simple to use

- UI similar to Photoshop

- Seems great for Tileset creating, but not very good on Sprites

- Cheap, only $9 now

Cons:

- Beta, may be there is bugs

GraphicGale?

Pro:

- Free!!!

Cons:

- Not really sure what is it name :D

- Complex to use, UI not nice, too basic

- Seem not a good choice

What Functions a Sprite Making Software should have? Especially for RPG Maker MV

- Exporting in RPG MV default format? :p

- Few Samples?

- Extract useable resource from another image (lol) :))

How about you? What is your mind?

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
Can someone recommend some fun story-heavy RPGs to me? Coming up with good gameplay is a nightmare! I was thinking of making some gameplay platforming-based, but that doesn't work well in RPG form*. I also was thinking of removing battles, but that would be too much like OneShot. I don't even know how to make good puzzles!
one bad plugin combo later and one of my followers is moonwalking off the screen on his own... I didn't even more yet on the new map lol.
time for a new avatar :)
