What do you use to make videos of your games? Thanks!

make a video from scratch, or simply record a footage of your game?

if from scratch, I personally prefer Sony Vegas

if record a footage, I use HyperCam2 since it's free and works nice for me. though somehow I can't make it record the sound correctly, but probably it's just a problem with my laptop.

I use Microsoft Expression, its not free. Although if you don't buy it and get the trial version it is limited on features, videos can only be recorded for ten minutes. To edit or create a trailer of sorts, I haven't delved into this very far. With that in mind I use movie maker, something that is in the windows operating system... I don't know if you can get this if you don't have windows.

I've moved this thread to Program and Utility Discussion. Please be sure to post your threads in the correct forum next time. Thank you.

Glad you started this, as I've been wanting to ask the same question.

I've been using FRAPS to record gameplay footage for OTHER games, but it doesn't seem to want to work for RPG Maker. I suspect the engine is grabbing the key presses and not passing them through to FRAPS, and FRAPS also doesn't appear to have a "record this section of the screen" option, but only records the active window.

Camtasia Studio is really nice to use, especially for editing, but it's not a free product - there's a 30 day trial, but to buy it's several hundred dollars.

There's a watered down (free) version - CamStudio that I used to use that doesn't have as wide a range of functionality. I've been meaning to grab it again and see if it works with RM.

Hypercam2 is free and allows recording of specific parts of the screen. :)

I used live stream to do a quick recording for mine.  I didn't set the volume input high enough though this time, since it was my first export when saving locally.  Lucky for me drop box has a default player so I don't have to rely on you tube or another commercial site that has terrible upload speeds.

Hypercam2 seems to be working great, and I lone how you can record only part of the screen, if you want, but just one question.

lol what happens to the videos you record, you can Play them through the program on the spot, but I don't see a save option, nor can I find a file for videos made in the program's folder anywhere(so it doesn't seem to be auto saving it)?

Edit: Nevermind I found it, it does actually auto save, but tosses them into the document folder, instead of the Hypercam2 folder.

You can determine the save path on one of the tabs of hypercam2

Yea, I found it, thanks(I'm gonna make it send the clips to a folder I make on my desktop, so the files are easier to get to).

Thanks all! Gonna try out some tonight! (And thanks Shaz for putting it in the right spot!)

And: What's the best way to share a video here?

I don't know if you can embed videos in a post. You could just add a link to a Youtube video.

The GMD has at least one video in the last few pages. Go find it, quote it, and hopefully you'll see what they've done to add it there :)

I do think the way is to use YT links via the media tag (it's on the special BB code list), that way, the YT video will become "embedded" into the post

Fine Engr, I changed it already!! Sheesh! ;)

Seriously thanks! Now everybody go watch it so it doesn't have it's sad little "no views" label anymore.

so hopefully tomorrow i get to go home from the hospital i've been here for 5 days already and it's driving me mad. I miss my family like crazy but at least I get to use my own toiletries and my own clothes. My mom is coming to visit soon i can't wait to see her cause i miss her the most. :kaojoy:
Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
