Best Way to Show Tool Animations?

HI everybody!

I'm making a farming-based game like Harvest Moon and am a little bit stuck on the best way to show tool animations, like when the player is tilling a square of field or planting seeds. I have several different ideas, but they're all time-consuming, so I wanted to see if anyone else had a simpler idea that I hadn't thought of.

I am using Selchar's farming scripts, which include a 2nd action button that you use for tools. They are not compatible with the ABS Pearl system (trust me, I tried). I really don't need an ABS system anyway, just a little tool graphic the way ABS Pearl does, where when you use your equipped hammer it looks like your character is swinging the hammer. Does that make sense?

I'm hoping there's a simple solution to this... if not I'll probably just have to use popups, which are not nearly as fun;)

Are you asking for sprites, or for a script?

Maybe you can use some kind of script that let's you draw icons, with a curve/angle function.

Draw pick icon (angle so it looks vertical-ish)

wait a few frames

Draw pick icon (angle so it looks diagonal towards the square)

wait a few frames

Draw pick icon (angle so it looks horizontal hitting the square)

Psst, sometime late August or Early September, there will be a resource pack released that will include these action sprites.

That's what I was thinking would be best. The problem is that if the character changes direction, the tool would have to change direction too, and I'd rather avoid doing that much eventing considering the amount of tools I have.

Oooh, really? Well maybe I'll hold off on fiddling with my tools until then:)

That shouldn't be much of a problem depending on the script. Scripts with these kind of functions usually handle that for the direction you're facing. It might automatically mirror the function based on direction. (like sideview battle systems with icon-drawing)

so hopefully tomorrow i get to go home from the hospital i've been here for 5 days already and it's driving me mad. I miss my family like crazy but at least I get to use my own toiletries and my own clothes. My mom is coming to visit soon i can't wait to see her cause i miss her the most. :kaojoy:
Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
