 First off, sorry for the ridiculous name. Second, I'm having a fair amount of trouble with exactly what the title says. Black backgrounds. Whenever I import a tileset that I've gotten from across the internet, the background is always black. I have attempted multiple times to set those black areas to 'Transparent', and it seems to work, though instead of the usual blue checkerboard background, it is black. After I set up the tilesets in the Database, I went to place something, and much to my annoyance, the black background is treated as part of the tile, and covers the tiles around it.

Example 1: Placed cherry tree. Tree had square black shape around it.

Example 2: Placed clothesline. Clothesline was visible, though the ground behind it was not. Instead, large black shape surrounds it.

Example 3: Place clump of small trees. Any trees from the imported textures have black backgrounds behind them. All original textures have no black shapes.

Here is a picture to help clarify:

I added a red square around the problematic area. This was not present in-game, nor in the game maker. Anyone know what's causing the Black Squares of Doom?! ;_;

You inserted another tileset you need to change the color of the black make it pink or orange or something and make sure to get rid of the inside parts like on a fence...That's what I do to fix mine, on your Paintbrush or Photoshop whatever you use. Hope I helped. :)

I love you. :thumbsup-right: :thumbsup-left:   But unfortunately, one of the tilesets has dead trees. Full of blackness. *Picks up white ink* I got s'um work ta' doooo!!!

Edit 1: No, wait.. the texture I edited to white now has a thin black line surrounding it.. Dangit! >.<

Edit 2: Yep, it's as I thought. How should I get rid of the black borders then? If I can't find a way.. I'm going to have to edit a tree to look autumn-y. That gives me an idea! Someone should make a program that can create textures! You would like, take a tree, and use the program to gve it differing leaves, trunk, etc. Boom! Instant cherry, acacia, dead, autumn, or even an apple tree!

Just a question: what program do you use to edit your tilesets?

Photoshop? Paint.net? GIMP?

And make sure you save it as a .png file.

I use the simple default Paint that comes with Windows 7. Should I use something else?

Edit: Yes, I do save them as .png files.

Um, yes.

Paint can not save transparency to an image. You need to get a real graphic design program.

The last time I was looking into free design programs, GIMP was it, I'm not sure what the cool free design program is now.

Also, you made those tiles in Paint? Mad props for that. You get your hands on a design program, I think you could be a really popular artist.

Actually.. >_>   I didn't make those. They came from another RPG Maker site that has a super crazeh person making tons of stuff. Although, I am somewhat good at making character sprites, hence the name.

As for GIMP, I could get that. Thanks for the advice everyone.. now... one last question..

Anyone know how to import icons? The crazeh person made tons of them. See? Wait.. oh. I lost the exact page in the sea of stuff, but here. http://vxresource.wordpress.com/page/10/

No, like item icons. You know when you make an item/armour/weapon/skill/state you have to choose an icon? Those icons.

Edit: Also, I'm very surprised by how helpful you all are. I mean, on some sites you can ask a question and get no responses. On this one, it becomes a whole page! :D

You need to put them on the Iconset.png file

Well, by default it's on the RTP... so if you need to customize it just for that project:

Go to Common Files->Enterbrain->RGSS3->Graphics->System

copy the Iconset.png from there and paste it into your game's Graphics\System folder, then edit it

Make sure to name it "IconSet" so that the engine will recognize it and add it in.

as I said, copy from the RTP and paste into your project folder, then edit that copy... no need for deleting
