As I've stated in another thread, I was planning on starting a "generator" project. Since my lack of programing skills, it's a simple and easy-to-use psd file instead, where you choose clothing and hair parts by turning on layers of your choice.
Why am I doing this?
When I started working with the RPG Maker, I had next to no artistic skills. But I already had certain designs for the characters in mind, so the standard RTP heroes weren't an option anymore. That's when I came across a psd file (or gimp, I don't remember) that let you make a character by turning layers on and off and by changing the colors slightly. It had the default RTP artstyle. (If any of you remember the creator, please tell me so I can credit them. If they want it, that is)
It helped me a lot when I started and now that I'm better at art, I thought I should help beginners just like others helped me in the past. Besides that, it's nice to see other artstyles than the RTP, right? (not that I'm against that artstyle though ^^°)
How does it work?
I've made sure it's as easy as possible. I've sorted the layers in a way that makes the parts look natural together, I've named each layer and I've chosen a base color, that would make it easier to change it later.
This is how you do it: Open the file in either Photoshop or Gimp (others like Sai are possible, but not recommended) and choose the parts to your liking by turning their layers on visible. Once chosen, you are free to change the colors. All programs work a little different, so you'll have to experiment a bit. There is also no need to resize it as it has the default RPG Maker resolutions. If you want to have a different resolution, please tell me.
Important! As much as I tried to make things work, some layers might have to be moved. This depends on your choice (example: Do you want the pendant to be above the jacket or below?) Second thing: there were some problems with the eyes. If I had kept outline and color on the same layer, changing the brightness would have resulted in the white of the eyes being changed as well. Of course that might be your intention, but I was thinking of all possible outcomes. As a solution, the iris and the white of the eyes are now seperated. It would be best if you don't merge these two.
Examples:
Of course I wouldn't post this without having a few examples ready.
Female School/Modern:
Male School/Modern:
Child Modern:
Female Medieval:
Male Medieval:
Future plans (updated):
The versions for the general modern setting (school uniforms and simple modern clothes) are done. Given that with everything included, I've reached the maximal number of layers I could use. From now on, new clothes and parts will be released as add ons. Which means they will be psd files without the hair or face parts. Then you can add and remove whichever layer you need.
I will be working on the rpg classes after this. This time, it will most likely take a little longer though.
Terms of use:
It's free for both non-commercial and commercial use, with proper credit of course. Please credit me as BlackRoseMii.
I would also like to see the project it will be used in. In general, this generator is meant for all Makers and the Visual Novel Maker.
You are allowed to edit the characters and clothes beyond what I made possible, with proper credit.
You are allowed to post the link on other sites as well, with proper credit.
You are allowed to use it for all kinds of projects, non-game related as well, with proper credit.
You are allowed to draw the characters in a different artstyle, with proper credit to the original source.
You are not allowed to trace or copy the characters or the individual parts.
You are not allowed to pretend like this is your own work.
You are not allowed to sell it.
And so, without further ado, here are the "generators" (now hidden in spoiler boxes so it won't look like a wall of text):
Small resolution:
Big resolution:
For those that don't have Photoshop and don't know where to get Gimp, I'll post a link to it as well. Gimp is free, so there is no worry about that.

Well, if there are any questions or feedback, I'd love to hear them. And have fun with the generator^^
