Life sentence for a candy ? Legit.

I've merely ran around for a few minutes, but I can already say the atmosphere is getting to me. The bloody words, the loneliness.

A personal taste suggestion : fill more items with comments, it provides background and immersion IMO. You did it for the deads in the first corridor, but on casual objects (and anywhere we'd look for, while searching for a solution) it really gets a disoriented, observing feel that fits the tone IMO. Also, other games sometimes use them to trigger spooky events (ex: just a book falling out of the shelve to jumpscare) or even nasty Game Overs, although those are too unfair IMO. Could insert random comments when running there or there too ! IMO.

I'll play a bit more before I say anymore. ^^ Nice game, IMO.

This looks pretty interesting, buddy. I have to go to work soon, but I'll try to give it a try sometime during the week. Something that I've noticed from first glance is that your grammar needs some work. For example, in the letter/book screenshot (the one with the red text), it says "...I am an honor man...". That's wrong, it should say "...I am an honorable man...".

Your spelling seems to be pretty good, but it's the grammar that needs work. Trust me, I know it's hard since I'm not a native English speaker (I'm not sure if you are or not). It's tough either way, but with practice and time, it will improve. :)

I usually use this site (and a few others) to check my game's writing. It's very easy to use and I've found it very helpful. Good luck, buddy!

Thank u very much dear. Your feedback is important for me. I know that my grammar  is not perfect, because I'm not English . I will do my best and I'll see the site which u gave me.

Thanks a lot :)

IMO = In My Opinion IMHO = In My Humble Opinion

I have just played until unlocking the Guardians' Room. My experience with horror games slows me because I anticipate too much. I just played for 15 min since I was busy anyway...

My rating will be about what could be improved. The story hasn't progressed much at this point, so I won't rate it yet. Also, scores may seem low but... I'm just like that.

Better points +

Maps : 7/10

 - plain and square, but that's a prison

 - that said, jails can be organized different for example on 2 floors with a bridge and a central canteen

 - buckets, chairs and tables could feel slightly less repetitive if you had tidy rooms and messier ones

OST : 7/10

 - for some reason I only hear my footsteps on the left

 - some sounds could feel much more scary if joined with visuals black screens, screen shake, red color filter, making a short time delay to some actions' result to increase anxiety...

 - volume is also a good parameter to play with nerves random sounds popping too... but stop, I'm scared enough

Weaker points -

Puzzles : 5/10

 - overall good, although a bit straightforward

 - like I said earlier, the lack of interaction with anything related to the puzzles hits the atmosphere, but also the way one plays ; here we aren't rewarded/punished for clicking everywhere, but sometimes things don't stand out (the swallowed key or the ventilation) and I find it odd to switch to "click everywhere mode"

Graphics : 4/10

 - beautiful pictures the blood is nice too

 - could try some effects to darken the mood

 - I feel the non-custom stuff too much, and even more since the setting is a small, repetitive area

 - I don't know if you want to do this on your own, but a designer could make the game much spookier

Overall : 11/20

 - nice for something made alone ambience and gameplay well executed

 - should feature interactive context horror is about context, and video game is about interactivity

 - limited graphic ressources but decent maping half saves it

When I play more and think of more, I'll tell.

Thank u very much for your kindness. You played my game and this made me happy. :)

As u said, it's a prison. before developing this game I drew all the maps of the game on my notebook. Also, I don't have good imagination of creating the maps, but I will do my best. I will replace the tilesets with custom ones when I finish everything. I thought that each jail has same contents and design.

OST : 7/10

 - for some reason I only hear my footsteps on the left

I added only soundscapes and footsteps. I will try to find more sounds for the game :). And I will some parameters too.

It's a prologue. That's why I didn't focus too much on the puzzles just to make the player get out from the prison. But, you're right. I will add some interaction.

The prison is a small area. As I mentioned, the design of all the jails are the same. But I will fix that for sure. I will add some custom tiles.

I will play more horror games to make my game much spookier. :)

Thank you very much for your feedback. That helps me to make my game more beautiful. I really appreciate your comments.

I will update the link with new one of course.

I'll just add some suggestions if you don't mind.

Maps

To be fair, it's good, just that it could have been different. Getting a non-repetitive feel often comes from small ideas. In your setting, something like a bed out of a cell could work, for example.

Puzzles / Story

Interaction-wise you could learn a lot from Corpse Party (RPG Maker game). Because of the 27 Endings (different game overs depending on the way you died), you have to make careful choices and interact with care : there are interactions just for context, some that give clues, some necessary for the good endings and some that lead to the bad ones.

Sounds / Events / Effects

I'll go with an example : when we unlock a door, we get a "you unlocked the door with the key" with a short sound and we can immediately go to the next room. Now imagine if we got instead a "use the key ? (Yes / No)", then a black screen, a slow unlocking sound, then we look at the result : sometimes back to normal and "door unlocked with the key", sometimes cutscenes, sometimes game overs... Wouldn't that be so tense ? The sound for "yes" would be heavy, and the black screen could be red-ish.

Example for random sound using delay + black/red screen : when you enter a room, black screen before seeing the room, loud sound (like a heavy object falling but we'll never know), then back to normal (in the room we entered) and the MC reacts "..." or "What was that...", "Who's there ?" etc. No consequence on the gameplay but the atmosphere gets haunting as sometimes black screen before seeing the room could just be a game over (suspense). The opening strike and laugh could also use the black screen, btw. Also, the loud sound could be accompanied by a quick red screen, like in the video below.

Well, that all relies on the black screen and delays stimulating the imagination of the player. Going back to Corpse Party, even unrelated to OST it just sets text, scenes, jumpscares extremely well IMO, especially in a RPG Maker game which kind of need that book-like stimulation because outside of CG they can't be visually that scary. What do you think about it ?

Hi there! I haven't played the game yet, I need to make some room in areas where I keep my files, but from the screenshots, it looks scary! I'm so excited to test it!

I know this probably shouldn't be said here, or maybe it can be, but would you like someone who can correct the grammar and stuff in the game? I don't know if you're selling this game or if it's going to be free, but if I'm this excited from screenshots and what some people have read, I bet it's going to be great! If you want someone who can do the grammar stuff for you, I would love to!

That's ABSOLUTELY kind of you, dear. :)

I'm so happy to hear that. Please, don't download this version. I'm working on the game now. I'll update the link as soon as possible. Also, this is a free game. I use RPG Maker to learn game development principles.

I like where this is going, the map fits the style it's representing and the small cutscenes can scare you.

What I liked the most so far was how you presented the items you get. The puzzles were okay, but you easily get lost.

Here and there were some tiles that the player shouldn't be able to run over but thats just a little thing for the beginning.

Overall I liked it, even though I am not into Horror^^ 7/10 so far.

You played only the prologue of the game. :)  I will fix the tilesets. All the pictures you saw it in the game is my paintings.

I'm so happy that u enjoyed the game and the atmosphere.

Much appreciated, dear.

it should "pop up" in the screen. so using a good shadow effect you can put it in evidence :)  it's only a suggestion

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
How many parameters is 'too many'??
