Hey all!  I've been lurking around here long enough that I think I should kick-start my little hobby with a bang.  Everyone here's been so nice, and I've always appreciated the work put into Indie Games.  I want to help!

Let me review your game!  This will include:

  • Up to 7 hours of YouTube Play-time.  I won't promise a full play-through as I want to cover multiple games rather than focus on one that may take months to complete.  That being said, we can talk about a full play-through if really wanted.
  • 1 full-fledged review on my website and on other sites where your game needs a review.
So yeah :3

Please note that I'm an amateur at the moment, but I'd love to get better and just offer a lil bit back to the community.  Plus, playing games is fun!

  • Longplays refers to games that I do plan on completing.  These are done at my leisure rather than regularly and will generally be 20-30 minute videos.
  • On the Slab are games that I plan on playing and should be expected soon(tm).  These can range depending on the type of game.
  • Nuzlocke Mayhem refers to playing a pokemon game with a specific set of rules or limitations.  These will be 15-20 minutes.

Is it okay if I reserve a spot on your to-do list? I would send you the current demo for my game but I've added so much and I'm still adding more so it's pretty out of date. I'll try to get the update out by Christmas. If you want to find out more about my game here http://ethernetodyssey.blogspot.com and here http://forums.rpgmakerweb.com/index.php?/topic/23947-ethernet-odyssey-wdemo/
Sure thing!  Let me know when you have your latest demo out and I'll download asap :)

EDIT.

Because I'm gonna be posting...a lot of stuff, I'll probably just update at the end of every week with what I've got done so I'm not outspamming my own thread.  Check back every Saturday for Let's Plays and other things!  And if you can't wait, subscribe to one of my sites, where you can read and watch in the here and now.   :)

Why'd you remove part 5 of Sweet Lily Dreams?
It's still there on YT. Plain as day.

Anyways, you have the perfect voice for one of these sweeter, less intense kinds of games. Even though I've only watched (or rather heard since I'm busy doing editing of my own and need some kind of distraction while I edit) the first 5 minutes of Sweet Lily Dreams. Not having 720p realllly irks me, though; which video recording software are you using? I know RPG Maker's limitation of the window size makes it unbearably difficult to record properly, but I would suggest looking into at least recording in 1280x720, even if it reveals part of your Desktop. Even though I was listening to this whole thing so the above statement is completely worthless.

Periodically, there was some volume spikes concerning the music in the game. Not sure if it was a recording problem or a game problem, but either way, it almost scared me half to death and then the other times it was like "this is annoying".

Anyways, good start, but it could also use some work. Especially in the execution and "flavour" department. And what I  mean by that is you're using the same voice all throughout the recording. It's fine, because naturally you sound sweet and cute, but there are times when adding a bit of emotion into what you say can really keep some of your subscribers watching your vids. No one wants to hear the same boring voice all throughout the game (no offense, and if you were offended I apologize). Also, when you go back through editing, cut out all of the unnecessary backtracking, like the part where you had to run and get the Potions from Ray. Think of games as like a rollercoaster, where the action bits are the high-speed upside-down hanging on for dear life parts, while the story part is you slowly climbing up to the very top. And if you've never ridden a rollercoaster this entire metaphor is stupid and pointless. When you have these interjecting backtracking moments in your game, it's like stopping at the very top but never really going down again. You want to be able to keep people going down seamlessly until the ride finishes.

Also, cut out all the random battles. No one wants to see battles that you or they have already fought. Remember that the definition of "Let's Play" is just that: "Let's Play this game together." At least, from my experience.

Oh and you should totally subscribe to my channel.

Anyways, sorry for my long rambling, but I just wanted to offer my two cents. >_<

Thanks for the feedback Arin!  I really appreciate it, and do want to get better, so any criticism is good criticism.

Recording has been a pretty icky experience for me.  Playing with settings hasn't helped so far-  OBS is convinced that my voice is background noise, so it's been really hard to configure that.  I apologize beforehand if I ever cut out in my recordings or speak too softly.

I know I need to add more inflection and personality while I speak.  I've been trying to do that more often.  I think it's just a matter of getting more comfortable with doing it, I hope to get better ^^

I'll try recording in 1280-720, though I thought I was already ._.  in OBS is says I am, but it's possible that I've been going to a lower resolution when I edit it in my videomaker (Using Wondershare Video Editor, which is essentially like...an upgraded Windows Movie Maker.  Not as many features as the pro things, but has been good to me when I haven't required too much editing or cutting.)  I've also been using Handbrake to web-optimize my video, so it could be that it's decreasing the resolution there as well.  I'll see if I can't experiment a bit this weekend to get something better.

I think the hardest part about my videomaker is the fact that while it does have a speed up option (2x), that's as fast as it goes, and it has a little stutter when I go back to normal speed, like this: http://youtu.be/8WOJSHUhLwc?t=3m49s ~  If I use a transition it's not as noticeable though.

Honestly, I want to get a better videomaker, but this one is so easy.  I tried the trial version of Adobe Premiere and...I could not even understand how to insert the video for testing.  I might try sony vegas, but if it's as difficult as Premiere is, I don't know @.@  The only thing I feel I really need is better speed-up to get through the running around....better transitions/flow would be nice, and that's literally it.  I don't plan to use that many special effects, but snipping and cutting appropriately for not just Lily but other games would be a godsend.  I'm going to be playing Elements soon, another rpgmaker game that, while I'm sure will be great, will possibly need speedups to get through all the monster battles and onto the story.

Any suggestions would be fantastic <3

I updated the demo. http://www.mediafire.com/download/z18gw7i6bnqjl08/Ethernet+Odyssey+Demo.rar

By the way, your avatar is adorable!

P.S: Someone named Mary Kersey added me to their circles on google plus. Is that you?
I'll download your demo soon :>

And nope...I don't know much about Google Circles, is definitely not me.

As for everyone else, sorries about the delay in Let's Plays!  It's been held up due to a bunch of things all happening at once, all of them good though!

I am now a writer/reviewer for a couple Indie Game sites, so I've been trying to work on new content for them.  I still have recordings done for Elements and Sweet Lily Dreams- It's just a matter of finding the time to edit all of it :>

Sorry guys it's been taking so long for updates on my Let's Plays!  I've had some great things happening.  I now review indie games for two different sites, am working on my own little weekly comic, and will soon be streaming for IndieGameStand.com on Wednesdays and Fridays.  While this doesn't mean my Let's Plays are officially over, I'm only able to produce about a video a week if lucky. :(

I think I'll just make another thread focusing on posting all the reviews I've been writing and any weekly updates to the site and/or when I'm streaming.

I am still working on Elements:  Soul of Fire!

Here's Part 3 :)

Hi, could you LP the game Casia? It's a long open world game of about 30 hours, but I don't mind you not finishing it. It's just nice to hear players' reactions on your game and get some feedback. :)

I'm looking forward to it :3 I've seen a few of your vids. I think you will like it (hopefully xD)! Just make sure you're on the latest version of the game (check signature) and install the RTP beforehand. Thanks!

Actually I've already recorded part of it and made it into a video.  I want to do another video before I upload it on youtube (didn't get too far the first time around).

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
How many parameters is 'too many'??
