So I'm here, laying on my couch with a head cold that is keeping me from sleeping, and very little to do to distract myself (I did some work, but man, that isn't what you want to do when feeling awful), I've decided to make a thread about one of my favorite hobbies: Board Games. Now, for anyone who follows my articles on the Official RMW Blog,
you know I've mentioned my love of board games before.
But its really not entirely relevant to RPG Maker, so I don't get to talk about it too much, so I'm just going to just spend some down time talking about it here in off topic.
I've been playing board games since I was a kid, of course with things like Monopoly, but I quickly got into Risk, then a game put out in Milton Bradley's Gamemaster series called Samurai Swords (was Shogun, is now sold under the name Ikusa), and a much more short lived game from Milton Bradley called Omega Virus.
But then I kind of faded out of board games for a while. I played here and there, and I got my "from a thrift shop box a bit ragged" copy of Samurai Swords out from time to time. Continued to play Risk, but mostly got into Tabletop RPGs. At some point though, mostly due to lack of planning time, my RPG group moving all over the place, and some other issues, I found my gaming time being cut up, and board games really filled that niche. Board games didn't provide the whole campaign structure (well, mostly, there are exceptions), the freeform roleplaying sections, or any of that, but it DID provide a fun hobby that scratched some of the itches from RPGs, and a few more itches I didn't even know I had.
At that point, my collection started growing. Up to its current size of about 50 games, and 40+ expansions (granted, if you ever see some collections, this would seem tiny, but its still to the point that I can sometimes barely play them all regularly).
Picture of my collection: (along with some of my Transformer toy collection, sorry for potato)
Missing from the image: Twilight Imperium 3rd, which sits on top of the shelves due to the box size, and a copy of a Heroscape base set that I picked up at a yard sale for 5 bucks.
Anyone else into board games? Anyone want to ask me any questions about the ones on my shelves? Anyone kind of want to get into board games, but don't know where to get started? Just want to play "How many games can we name in a potato quality picture"? I'd love to talk about basically anything on the subject.
