Hi, I'm Jesse. That'll work.
Okay, so I'm no mapper/artist/musician/etc... I'm a writer. Now I'm going to assume that I didn't just lose your interest, because
you clicked on this link, and that leads me to believe you may (perhaps subconsciously even) need a writer for something.
So let me get out my list here...
Do you by any chance need:
Someone to write you a good story, backstory, lore, or riveting conversation?
Someone to take your rough drafts and pretty them up with an extensive vocabulary while
staying true to the character? (That veteran Roman soldier did NOT just say "dude" did he?)
A typo hunter? Yeah... that one is the least fun to do, and I'll secretly resent you for it, but hey someone's gotta do it.
I will follow your instructions to a T! If you say "no pop culture references", I say "How high?"... wait, forget that... I lost my point.
YOU are in control over how much creative freedom I have, and I won't spitball anything without your say-so.
(So don't worry, my personal fan-fiction will not end up in the actual game. Not even in easter egg form.)
I mostly work at night. Seriously. I'm talking from 11pm to 8am. That's my "Creativity time". I will, however, usually be available
to contact via PM, Skype(request via PM), or other preferred means of contact throughout the day.
And now OUTSIDE the writing department, I have these side skills.
Eventing: I've done my fair share of clever eventing. I stand by the notion that given enough time and resources, anything
can be evented. (I do not stand by nor endorse the notion that doing so is an acceptable course of action for everything.)
Minor Art: I can't draw fancy HD "Holy Sheet Dem grafixs!" type stuff... but have a semi-decent grasp of pixel art.
(will provide examples if asked.)
Testing and Feedback: I will play your game, and probably rip it to shreds as I am an opinionated (not a very nice) person
when it comes to that sort of thing. Don't worry, I won't TRY to hurt your feelings or just bash your hard work without any
good reason, but you have been forewarned that I will be brutally honest if you ask me to be straight with you.
Discussion and Concept: I can talk for days. No exaggeration. If you need someone to discuss ideas with and/or exchange
thoughts... I'm your man/woman/dragon/bear/demigod thing.
Do I have any rules?... well just three.
1. I do not mock anyone's beliefs openly and bluntly.
If you want me to bash the fictional religion or ethnic group in your game, or do so to a real organization by means of allegory, then I'm fully prepared to make some people CRY!!
but disrespecting anyone's real life personal beliefs bluntly is not something I'm willing to do.
Example: I will write a story where the antagonist is a religious zealot or where the hero is prejudiced beyond redemption, but I will not write a story about a zombie Jesus defending the world from African-American aliens. (Or vice versa. Homeboys from space defending against Zombie Jesus is also a no.)
2. Romance is not my forte.
Don't get me wrong here... I love writing romance. I'm sappy for it actually... But at the same time, it's usually on the
level of a "visual novel" or those "books" that your grandmother buys from the dollar general.
I've been told I'm good at it, but I personally find it cheesy. I'm not saying I won't do it (heavens no), I just ask that you
do not laugh, and remember that I told you it wasn't you, it was me.
3. I do not do "middle school characters"
By which I mean if your character bio states that this edgy son-of-a-buck drops an F-bomb with each passing breath just
because it makes him "cool", he's poorly written, and is beyond saving. I will gladly use profanity when asked/necessary, but
will protest heavily against over-usage of it, as it makes me look unprofessional and immature.
Payment:
I accept "Thank you kindly" and "You rock" as payment, but if you are feeling like you're ripping me off (you're not)
I am always in need of various resources and will trade if you absolutely refuse to take my free-service.(you won't )
I'm not about to let you pay me in "cold hard monies" though. Not unless I write ever single word of your game and you
commercialize it or something. (Even then though, I probably won't.)
Which brings me to the final bit here, Credit.
You need not credit me with anything more than "Special thanks to Jesse Rich, thejesse081" unless desired.
If your game gets commercialized... Way to go! Can't believe you pulled that off! I don't need any percentages or free copies,
just publicity. "I know a writer who's always looking for more work."
If you're interested (or still here for that matter...) then PM me or comment below or whatever floats your wind-propelled
floatation device.
TL;DR "I write stuff, you like? PM me."
EDIT: Okay, so new rule. I'm not accepting full time jobs for any project that JUST started. It's too much of a gamble. I will gladly offer my experienced advice and input, or help with one or two
(I say "for free" because you are welcome to negotiate/offer me something to change my mind. If it's worth the trouble I may still do it.)
Commercial projects will get the same treatment, because if you quit half-way then it's not REALLY commercial then, is it?
