Hey there!

So i'm doing my very first project and use it more as a tutorial for myself to try out things and obviously change a lot.
RN I've made a few maps but didn't design any NPC at all and neither did I create a boss.
First of all I know balancing can be hard so I'll do that later once I've got a game structure going.
What matters to me rn is:
What are the steps to a bossfight?
  1. Approach Boss
  2. Interact
  3. Dialogue
  4. Battle begins
  5. Either you defeat them or they defeat you
  6. Battle ends
Did I forget somewhat? Whatever.
RN The boss reacts to Player Touch, Makes a Balloon Icon, plays a sound, talks a bit, then change the music to the boss battle music and then process the battle.

Now battling is a whole different story. I didn't touch that yet so any tip is welcome.
I've thought about a boss that summons weak minions that serve as living shields to take hits for them but thats just a vague idea.
Now if you defeat the boss he does some dialogue and dies.
But then I'm again in front of the Boss NPC and If I fight any normal enemy the boss music still plays- How do I fix those two problems?

  • Make enemy NPCs disappear after you fought them.
  • Change a battle music back after a fight.
If I change the music back infight it starts playing instantly which I don't want.

Make your boss battles however you want. You can have no dialogue if that suits you. I’d recommend thinking of your favorite rpgs for inspiration. I’d also recommend you watch SRDude’s youtube tutorials. They should answer all your basic questions.

So I did that but I feel like it's a bit "clunky" to add 3 commands before ever boss to change BBG, BGM and Victory music and then change them again after the boss.
Is there any simpler way?

There are no "steps" to a bossfight, you choose what you want depending on how you are telling your story. A boss might appear out of nowhere and just start battle to disorient and catch the player off guard, a boss might be in your own party all this time, and defeat is not necessarily the end of the game and fight is not the only option just look at Mother 2 final boss.
Also, I'm sorry to say that if you think using 3 command lines is clunky or tedious, then you wont like making games.

I don't think that 3 command lines are but that copypasting the same 3 at each beginning and each ending of any special fight seems a bit off and makes me think there's a special tool for yet that I didn't find.
(something like adding costum bgm and backgrounds to each troop idk)
