I see...Well if i can afford it maybe i'll try...if Mack tiles doesn't work ot

It seems like straying from the RTP is rule number 1 for a Rpg maker

commercial game...

Are there any successful commercial games heavy in RTP?
Before you go searching the net to buy tilesets, you should definitely buy the Samurai pack in this site's store(It's a steal at 20 bucks, and it comes with like 8 tilesets, not to mention a metric ton of other things)

You should pickup the DS Resource packs as well.

Also while it doesn't come with tilesets, it comes with other useful resources(that will make your game look like a non-RTP game), the Fantasy Hero Pack

I have seen those packs but I'm thinking of making my characters two tiles tall...(I'll probably hire a pixel artist for all my heroes[sprites+battle sprites])

and it seems that these are made more for chibi sprites...

Especially the DS pack...

I like it very much though!

I'll probably buy it, just for the music and the icons it has.

By the way, my game uses a side-view battle system and some of the Ace enemies look strange.

Do these packs have any side-view battlers?

Hm ok. you don't have to for battlers though, as there are quite a few bigger battlers(battlers are 2-3 times bigger then char map sprites in general anyway, so that wouldn't be a problem with your bigger sprites).

As for sideview battlers, they're the same as any battlers really, It's just how you use them, so as long as your script changes how the battle is laid out, and troops are set up, I don't see why it wouldn't work with every battler..

For battleres, and other things like char faces/char pics, both the Samurai pack, and the Fantasy Hero pack would be good for that(yea the sprites, and tilesets from the Samurai pack you might not have a use for, but everything else would probally be useable.

In short: here's what you could use

DS: Faces, Pictures(there's a ton of char pictures), battlers(there's not a whole lot of battlers, there's a bunch, It's just not as many as other sets, but they are probally split between the two DS packs, so getting poth packs would probally = a lot), and some music

Fantasy Hero Pack: Boatloads of Faces, boatloads of pictures(and the highest quality of both out of all the sets, the artist who did them rocks), and a handful of battlers

Samurai pack: a very nice assortment of faces, and a ton of battlers.

Those are the main resources each of the 3 have, that I think you would still find useful.

i see.

Well, I'll get the ds pack and when the budget allows i'll see for the other ones.

By the way,I just thought of something...

I use the font Code2000 in my game...

Do I need a license to use it?

I'm not sure about that, I always thought most fonts were considered freewhare(do what you want with them), but there are rare occassions where that Isn't the case, so you'll need to look into it(where did you get it from, and was there any copyright tags on any of the files for the font).

Quite the contrary - most fonts are to be paid for, and just that microsoft already paid for them for you to use in windows doesn't mean they're free.
There are free fonts out there, but those are usually done by people who don't make full fonts, so they usually work only in one country missing the letters for other countries.

And if you go to professional fonts with full data, they easily cost dozen or even hundreds of dollars.

I think it misses A,B,C

You know when the enemies are the same,

the maker makes their names take letters of the alphabet: for example, slime A,Slime B and so on...

For some reason it can't display those...

yes, a few fonts don't have capitals because they're intended to write everything in the same letter format - and when one of the capital letters is automatically selected, then they pose problems.

However, it it's really only the enemy ID letters, then a script change should be easy to make, and then the engine will only use lower case letters for enemy ID. If there is more missing, that script might be a waste of work, because some of the special symbols have to be made and can't be replaced...

no, there is no script for that that I know of - but I was talking of a small correction (one or two lines) in the original engine's scripts, not adding an entire script to the game.

read terms of service, there are many free to use commercial sets floating around along with others that you pay for a license.  Check out benben's, hanzo kimura, mack's & maybe purchase rpg maker xp rtp.  They all work nice with mack sprites. Personally i am not a fan of the high fantasy pack.

Ceciliana's stuff is nice too but you have to pay for a license.

Editing tiles to make them work well together is also an option if you are a parallax guy.  Like i have many different tile sets & i edit them (colors, contrast, size etc) into my own tilesets so that they all match up.

Also Zero i could be wrong but i feel like you have done very little of the leg work & research.  You might have to front some money in order to present a product people actually will kick start.  I see many rpg maker projects with crap presentation on kick starter and none of them fund.  I dont plan on kick starting my game for another year.

Actually I'm investing a lot in the game's presentation...

I have hired a published comic artist to design my characters and we are doing some very interesting work.

At the same time a hired scripter from this forum is working on the game's battle system.

So your assumption is wrong (-:

I have yet to decide about what exactly we will do with the tilesets....I like Mack's but they are not really the style I want in my game.

We have talked with the artist about using hand-drawn art as parallax maps but that will make the game shorter...

It would have an even better presentation though so I am in a dilemma!

Anyway I'll have to decide once we finish the characters...

As you can see we have a long way to go before it's ready for kickstarter...

Maybe a year or even more...

I want to make it so nobody thinks "ah!an rpg maker game..." when they see it!

If you just want something that isn't RTP styled and you don't want to use the high fantasy sets there are some alternative tilesets in the works that will be made available in the store sometime this year.

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
