Story
According to the Holy Grimoire, God once lived with the people of his planet bringing happiness and peace to the world for centuries.
Then one day, without warning, the great Calamity came.
No one knows what it was exactly, but it wiped nearly all life off the planet.
Those who survived reach out to their god for answers:
"Why did this happen?"
"Why didn't you stop it?"
"Why didn't you save our families?"
The questions echoes throughout the surviving crowds.
Then four young people, stricken with grief and remorse, rose up and began to attack God.
After taking the assault of the four silently, God slowly rose up into the sky.
The onlookers watched with horror as He slowly disappeared from sight.
Before vanishing, a low voice was heard in the people's minds:
"My children... Take from me my gift and my curse. When those who have wronged you redeem themselves, only then will you be free of the Calamity."
Then the burst...
Thousands upon thousands of tiny gems began raining down from the sky.
And God's voice was no more....
Gameplay
Calibur: The Telos Gems is an old school console-styled Fantasy-Adventure RPG inspired by many SNES and PSX era RPGs. With the ATB battle system, players can
manage time as they plan attacks and spells as they guide their party throughout a world sprawling with dangers, treasures and secrets!
Formal classes do not exist in this game but are present via weapon equip choices.
While some characters are better suited than others, all characters can use most weapons and equipment with few exceptions.
Skills, in turn, are obtainable by any party member provided you have the needed items to teach them.
Also present is the Skill-Drop system which nets players special items based on the method by which enemies are defeated.
You can obtain rare items or just more plentiful drops by finding these special methods.
Item management from equipment to battle items form a major part of the strategy of this game.
This Demo is currently very playable and clocks me an average of 8-9 hours to complete. While near complete, the battle system may have a few hiccups.
This is also made mostly with RTP resources with some music from outside thrown in. Also, some menus and items/descriptions may not be 100% up to par. This will be addressed in time.
Also note that this game was made with a game controller in mind. It will work with a keyboard, but NOT a mouse or touch input.
What I seek from those who wish to play is some feedback on the battle system and general story. Most if not all of the maps will likely be redone in time.
Specific requests are that those who play let me know if I was too skimpy on the tutorial section. Also, the flow and difficulty of battles. I built this game to be a challenge but I do not want it to feel unfair.
This was very much a labour of love for me and I'd appreciate some love to push me to continue (even though I'll be doing that anyway.
)
I have been working on this game in some form or another since RM2k and would love to see it finished.
