Can RPGMMV make shop-oriented games?

Hello I'm still a bit new to RPG Maker MV. I was wondering if it can handle making a game where the main character opens a shop. Sorry if this has been asked before I tried searching beforehand and didn't get anything.

Theoretically though I don't think it would be easy and it depends on what type of shop you are talking about... do you mean a shop where the player sits there all day for customers or a shop that does it's own thing while the player runs around doing their own thing?

Theoretically, anything can be done in the RMs. The entire engine is open source and anything can be changed in the javascript.

However, the engine is not geared toward a shop simulation, so you'll have to enter a lot of changes and plugins into that to make it into such a game.

That can be done (in fact there was a tavern-simulator based on RMXP on steam until it had to be taken down because its team split up in a bad way with legal problems), but it is a lot of work.

If you can program yourself and have no fear of that work, go on - for a small game on the side you'll better look for an engine that is targeted on simulations.

The Vendor is a good example of one, I think, and it won an award in the 2014 IGMC contest. However, the developer is an experienced coder and did a lot of code to make it work. So, as Andar said, expect to need some coding work done.

I want to make a game where you own a shop and have to go adventuring to keep supplies for said shop. Something like Recettear. So it's a mix between rpg/shop simulator.

Sadly I'm no programmer. I am in college and switched my major to game design in the hopes I can be a game designer/writer. My boyfriend who I'm doing the project with is an animator. I guess we'll put this project on hold until we figure something out. :)

@Gwen_Allstaria I'd say learn as much as you can. I think it could be done but you would have to get extremely creative without the coding experience.

Yeah, I guess it depends on exactly how you want it set up. I'm not familiar with that game, so I can't compare. There is a lot you can do with eventing if you get creative. And there may be plugins to help with some of it. It just really depends on exactly how you want the mechanics to work and all. It never hurts to try seeing how far you can take it.

Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
How many parameters is 'too many'??
Yay, now back in action Happy Christmas time, coming back!

Back in action to develop the indie game that has been long overdue... Final Fallacy. A game that keeps on giving! The development never ends as the developer thinks to be the smart cookie by coming back and beginning by saying... "Oh bother, this indie game has been long overdue..." How could one resist such? No-one c
