I don't know if this forum section is the right place to ask but I can't seem to find the link to FAQs. I got a lot of question regarding these Makers but first I want to read all the FAQs before making a thread to ask my questions.

Ok, I have read the link in your signature and FAQs. Below are something I'd like to know before getting a RPG maker

1. Is newest version of RPG maker contain all the functions of old version?

2. Do I have to pay full price again if new version released?

3. Is the maker only limit to making 2d game?

4. Is it possible for me, a totally zero knowledge to programming, scripting, etc, to make a game? (of course by the help of community despite I might not understand all the codes)

5. How far or big can I make for a game? Similar to online game's patching for new contents.

6. The game made by RPG maker is available to what platform?

That is all my questions for now and I hope you don't find me annoying.

1. I think MV contains far more better and advanced features than the previous RPG Makers.

2. I'm not sure what you mean by "new version" but if you mean a new RPG Maker then yes you do have to pay full price, though a new RPG Maker won't be out for another few years now! If you mean updates then no. Updates are free.

3. 3d games wouldn't be supported in RPG Maker. Though you can get some very realistic graphics for RPG Maker. There's a lot of talented members here who could draw you graphics for a fee.

4. Of course it's possible! Anybody can learn to use RPG Maker.

5. Final Fantasy has become a huge RPG game and you can make games very similar to FF in RPG Maker.

6. If you buy MV then you can release to multi-platforms. Buy VX Ace and you cannot release to multi-platforms.

if you choose to go ahead and buy one of the RPG Makers then best of luck regarding whatever game you start! Sorry if I answered any of your questions wrong. I'm extremely tired right now ;)

The answers above are basically correct despite any possible lack of sleep ;-)

To add to them:

1/2): there are no "versions", every RPG-Maker is a standalone program, and some people are still making commercial games with XP today (more than a decade after release)

That said, VX, VX Ace and MV basically only improved the previous version and beside the price or availability of special community resources there would be no reason to use something other than MV. The only disadvantage of MV is that it's extremely new and thereby doesn't have the same number of community resources yet (and a few bugs remaining). But that will change, and MV is the only maker that can deploy to mobile and HTML5 - VX and Ace are restricted to windows only.

5) Patching a game after release is possible (easier with MV than with Ace but possible in both), but it requires planning ahead and may invalidate older saves depending on the changes done.

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
