Hi,

I am having trouble playing RPG Maker VX Ace games due to an issue with fullscreen freezing my computer and forcing me to restart my computer. Oddly enough, that issue is actually secondary to my desire to turn off the "Launch in Full Screen" option; I would happily play the games in windowed mode to avoid the freezing, but the "Launch in Full Screen" option seems to persist from game to game, even after deleting all game files and even uninstalling and deleting all trace of RPG Maker (the RTP etc). Where is this setting stored, and how can I disable it? The method I used to turn it on (right clicking the top of the game window and going to properties) won't work because as soon as the game launches it goes into fullscreen and freezes the computer in blackscreen. Please help!

Unchecking the option to Launch in Fullscreen from the Game tab does nothing?

RMMV
I suspect he's not playing them from the editor, but they're games he's downloaded.

A freeze when going fullscreen might indicate an issue with the graphics card/driver. Can you try to update your driver and see if it makes a difference?

Yes, I am using downloaded games.

I updated the graphics drivers, but it didn't have any effect on the issue.

Do you know where the setting to launch in fullscreen is stored? It has to be somewhere, since it persists.

Thanks for the quick responses!

The setting to launch in fullscreen is determined with each game by a choice of the developer.  afaik there is no general storage of the fulscreen choice at the user's end which is independent of the setting in the game.

I tried to see if I could change the setting with another downloaded game, but the exact same thing happened when I tried to launch that one. Even in the original game, if the setting was in the game alone, deleting and redownloading the game should have undone the setting. Something has to be stored somewhere outside the games for this to be happening, I just can't figure out where.

Deleting and redownloading will change nothing.  If you look at the menu bar of the editor, under the drop down menu for 'Game', you will see that one of the options there is 'Launch in full screen'.  If that has been checked by the developer before the game was encrypted, then that setting stays forever.  It is specific to the game, it is not stored outside of the game.

The F1 settings are stored the registry and are not game-specific:

Key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Enterbrain\RGSS3

Subkey: LaunchInFullScreen

A value of 0 means windowed. I've attached a zipped .REG file which deactivates this option. However some games switch to fullscreen on their own or have an alternative fullscreen mode.

launchinfullscreen.zip

Woohoo! One trip to regedit later and I am back in windowed mode! Many, many thanks! The fullscreen freeze is still an issue, but at least now I can play the games in some form :)

Our latest feature is an interview with... me?!

People4_2 (Capelet off and on) added!

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
Can someone recommend some fun story-heavy RPGs to me? Coming up with good gameplay is a nightmare! I was thinking of making some gameplay platforming-based, but that doesn't work well in RPG form*. I also was thinking of removing battles, but that would be too much like OneShot. I don't even know how to make good puzzles!
one bad plugin combo later and one of my followers is moonwalking off the screen on his own... I didn't even more yet on the new map lol.
