I'm using RM2k Value!+ version 1.62 from steam.

I know that in order to see the background map/parallax you need to have a transparent area. When I open files for games that use parallaxes (i.e. End Roll) they have transparent lower layer tiles that let you see it, but when I make my own project and put in a parallax through map settings and use the default transparent tile in the game's original tilesets, they do not show as transparent but as the color of the tile.

Is this something that can be fixed within the engine or is there any external plugins or scripts that I need?

Resolution of parralax files must be this same as map resolution in pixels.
For example you have 20x15 tiles in map and this is 20*16 and 15*16 = 320x240 pixels. End Roll have 640x480 resolution, so if you want show this in editor you should make bigger map (40x30 tiles) or resize this graphic to 320x240 pixels.
