Hi,

I downloaded RPG Maker XP yesterday because I was interested in trying to make a commercial quality game. I'm having a little trouble, though.

For one thing, I know that it's possible to create intro cutscenes because a demo game I downloaded had them, but the tutorials I've watched are apparently out of date. I couldn't find the "set player position" option they talk about in the videos, and I tried to just copy someone else's code to see if that would work, but there's also no option I've found that allows you to just type in your own code. You have to use the prompt options or rely on little glitches that allow your comments to become commands (it doesn't work with every command).

I think at this point I would be comfortable just following a good old-fashioned step-by-step tutorial that teaches me the in's and out's of the game maker by having me create a couple of demo games. I love the program, but I hate getting stuck and not knowing how to get events to do what I want them to do.

Can someone help?

When you right-click on a tile in Event mode, "Set player position" will be one of the options.

I used this site when I started out with XP. There are these videos as well, if you want some visual help.

Thanks. I think I figured out how to get the player to disappear, but the picture I inserted for the intro isn't showing up at all. It's a PNG, I think. Is that the problem? I thought the background picture would show up during the intro, like in the sample, but mine is not doing that.

I guess I'll take a look at those tutorials. Not getting this program to do what I want is a bit frustrating, especially when I think I've followed the correct steps and still can't get it to work.

The best thing to do when you start learning how to use RPG Makers are to play around with it! Mess around and have fun! The more you work on your skills and learning how to do things, the better games you can make.

@Kendra Could you show the intro event? It's hard to say what you might have done wrong without seeing it.

Thanks. I figured out how to make a decent cut scene. You're right. Playing around with it helped.

Back in action to develop the indie game that has been long overdue... Final Fallacy. A game that keeps on giving! The development never ends as the developer thinks to be the smart cookie by coming back and beginning by saying... "Oh bother, this indie game has been long overdue..." How could one resist such? To whom ever person or persons who re-did the DS/DS+ asset packs for MV (as in, they are all 48x48, and not just x2 the pixel scale) .... THANK-YOU!!!!!!!!! XwwwwX
