So I want to activate random encounters for just one of my maps in RPG Maker MV, and I have tried several ways to turn it on (selecting all map, or region specific the random encounters) including using tutorials, and it looks like I'm doing everything right  but then when I go and play test it, nothing happens. Does anyone have an idea of what I'm doing wrong? Please help?

Edit: Ok sorry, here's a screen shot of the map properties.

Please post a screenshot of the map properties - random encounters are on by default (unless you turned them off by event command, which is for the entire game), but you can only have random encounter if you set troops into the random encounter table of the map.

With that screenshot we can tell you if everything is setup correctly or not.

I've moved this thread to MV Support. Please be sure to post your threads in the correct forum next time. Thank you.

That should work.  Are you sure you haven't turned off encounters at some point, or don't have a plugin that disables them?

Ya, none of the plugins should effect the random encounter system. Do you know of maybe any plugins I can try or maybe a site that I can look for some?

A plug in wouldn't help you to get this to work, as it is either due to one you have, or you turned them off. Try this:

Go to the upper left hand corner of your map (or some location you will remember where it is), and create a new event. Set it to parallel process. Inside the event, have the following two commands:

Change Encounter: Enable

Erase Event

What this will do is every time you enter the map, it will turn on random encounters, then it will erase the event so it doesn't lag down the game. If that works, that means you did turn them off somewhere else.

The other thing is how high is your step count on that map? I can't see it in the picture, however, RPGMaker uses that as an average by default, so you might really have random fights but not seeing them due to too high a step count. Also remember no random fights will ever show up if you hold down CTRL while in test play.

If none of that is the issue, you will need to post a screenshot of all of your plug-ins so we can see if one of them is turning them off, or changing how they work.

No, that's the wrong approach.  If something that SHOULD work by default DOESN'T work, you don't want to look for plugins to make it work - you look for what's stopping it and fix it.

Please disable ALL of your plugins, save, and play to see what happens.  Your encounters are set to 10 steps.  That means an encounter could happen anywhere between 1 and 20 steps.

If it won't work, do a test by changing it to a specific region instead of the whole map, and paint a large area with that region (if you can use the tool, just use the bucket-fill and paint the whole map with that region).  See if that works.

The other thing is to check your troop and make sure it's got enemies.  I suspect that'll be okay, as if it didn't have enemies I think it'd still at least give you the victory screen, but I'm not 100% on that, and at this stage we're considering any and all possibilities.

If you still don't have any luck, please go to the console (play the game and hit F8 to open the developer tools, then click on the Console tab), and type the following and hit enter:

$gameSystem._encounterEnabled

and let us know whether it says true or false.

Did you find where you'd turned it off?  It's nice that it was a simple cause - means it's a simple solution ;)

Ya, I turned it off in my little pub place in my village. Honestly I probably should have looked there first. That place has been causing me all sorts of trouble.

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
