Can't move after event

So I'm totally new to RPG Maker and I was just experimenting around with quests and the like when after setting off a particular event, I froze. I couldn't move, look around, access the menu, nothing. My quest consists of the MC talking to some dude, and after choosing a particular option, he gets an item. When I did just that, it worked; no problems. But then I set a switch in which a boat would appear after I get said item. I did everything right (I think), I set the switch 001: Boat Appear, then I did a new event in which I selected the switch, set boat location, set it to autorun, put self switch A, created a new page, selected the self switch and put nothing else on it. However, after doing that my dude freezes. What did I do wrong?

How did you put the second page of event? did you put autorun or action push?

the second page needs to be action button, if you changed that trigger to autorun you only switch from one autorun to another autorun.


And during autorun all player movement and access is blocked.

For the second page I put nothing in contents, self switch A is on, priority: below characters, trigger: action button and I didn't change anything in options, graphic or autonomous movement.

then check if there is another event (including common events) that might be set to autorun, because only an autorun can freeze an actor (unless you have a defective skript in your game, that would be the second option)


If you don't have any other event on the map and no common event, then post full screenshots of both event pages - it might be that you set a condition wrong or something else that destroyed your logic, and we need to see what exactly you did to find the bug (you're telling us only about things you know of, but on the screenshot we can see the settings you don't know of)

Here they are:

Event 1 is the getting the item event.

Event 15 and 15-2 are the 2 pages for the autorun event.

Sorry I forgot to mention that I made numerous transfer events on the side, but they're all the same so EV7 is their page.

please exchange the screenshots 2&3 to something readable.


When I said full screenshot I wanted to see all option, not have the bottom part cropped off - you can remove the map and editor parts from the side, but not crop the settings of the event pages...


Also, please check if every transfer event is indeed identical to the one you provided above - there needs only one wrong part in one of the events that you even don't remember putting there to create the problem.


Do you have any script installed in your game?


And you don't need the switch or the extra event to have the boat appear, just place that set vehicle position command instead of the switch in the first event.

Here they are, sorry about that, I didn't notice they were cut off.

On the transfers, I checked every single one and they're all the same.

Now the script is interesting because that could be the problem. I remember that I installed a different one because I was, ironically, also having movement problems, but it turned out to be a USB port I had on. Maybe this could be the problem? If so, what do I do, reinstall the maker?

reinstalling the maker would not change anything with the script, because the script is inside your project and not in the program. Just go to the script editor and delete the added script there if you no longer need it.


Some scripts are triggered by switches, and if you don't configure them correctly then the switch 001 you're triggering will also trigger that script - not only the boat event.


And like I suggested above, get rid of event 15, place the set vehicle location command inside your event 001, in place of the control variable command. This should also solve the problem if it is due to that event or switch.

It does something on the second event page, the last two pictures are only added because the original screenshots (which contained the other pages) were broken several posts above.

Yes it finally worked! Thanks Andar, I guess I made it a bit too complicated right? 

I've still got a lot to learn but I'll get there eventually, thanks for all the help!  :D
