After computer troubles that involved re-installing Windows, I cannot re-activate RPG Maker MV

I purchased MV late in November, after trying it out.  A few days ago, Windows 10 became corrupt on my computer, so I had Windows 7 installed.  This, of course, wiped the hard disk, programs and data (which I couldn't access anyway).  I re-installed RPG Maker MV okay, but it is treating it as being  the trial version (telling me that I have 19 or 20 days of the trial left).  Naturally, I want to re-activate it using the key that they sent me when I bought it.

On entering my email address and product key, I get what appears to be an Internet Explorer page  with the error message:

This program cannot display the webpage

Most likely causes:

You are not connected to the Internet.

The website is encountering problems.

There might be a typing error in the address.

What you can try:

Check your Internet connection. Try visiting another website to make sure you are connected.

Retype the address.

Go back to the previous page.

More information

I re-installed RPG Maker MV yesterday evening. I couldn’t re-activate it then, so I thought that I would try today, in case their server was down. I am still getting the same problem.

I have tried temporarily turning-off the firewall and antivirus program, but that doesn’t seem to do any good. The Internet IS working, otherwise I would have difficulty posting this. Has anyone any ideas?

Ah...that sucks.

You don't have the Steam version,so it's worse fort you.

Anyway, find a mod and PM him about it.

They can check if it's legit.

I suspect Internet Explorer (which houses the HTML engine used on the DRM for UI) needs to be updated.

@Andar might be of help. At present, he's the only staff member on the forum I can recall at the moment.

@Diretooth I'm a moderator, but I'm not employed by Degica and have no special access to their servers.

@BoredSoul you're wrong, the standalone version purchased here includes a steam licence, that's the advantage of purchasing MV here on the main store as standalone.

@Piyan Glupak There are several possibilities - as mentioned above it might be that the connection is blocked by one of your background programs (there might be others than only firewall and antivirus), it might be that the internet connection isn't completely setup in Windows itself (which includes the internet explorer), it might be that one of the other drivers on your computer does not yet function correctly (have you updated the mainboard drivers?), it might be that you misread the licence number (happened before).

If all of this fails, you need to contact the official tech support by a ticket on the main site, not through the forum - only those have access to the server database and can check why it might have failed.

If you need it fast, I suggest activating your copy on steam. That handles the DRM differently and should work.

I actually had no idea about that. Seems like a download is in order!

The problem is now solved.  In case other people are in a similar position, I will try to describe what I did.

I found that the Windows updating program stuck when I tried to look for updates.  Apparently, according to what Mr. Google showed me, this is a well-known problem for newly installed Windows 7.  Apparently Microsoft altered the updating procedure so that the original program that looks and tries to deal with updates (that you get with a new installation of Windows 7) no longer works.  One of the websites told me how to switch it off properly using the terminal, and gave a load of download links for updates to do before re-setting the PC.  I did that, and re-set.  Still no joy.

I had a look at the manual unlocking option on MV.  I couldn't bring up the website that they tell you to contact them to get an unlocking code.  However, I did look at the "additional information" on the error screen.  It mentioned something about SLS and TLS on 'Internet Options'.  I went to the 'Advanced' tab on 'Internet Options' on Internet Explorer.  Scrolling down, some versions of SLS and TLS were not ticked to allow.  I did a bit of clicking to tick them.  Tried again with MV , and Bingo! Activated!

Don't know whether the updates were necessary or not.  Someone who is a little less techno-phobic might know.

Very many thanks to all who helped me.  While I am on here, may I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year?

Our latest feature is an interview with... me?!

People4_2 (Capelet off and on) added!

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
Can someone recommend some fun story-heavy RPGs to me? Coming up with good gameplay is a nightmare! I was thinking of making some gameplay platforming-based, but that doesn't work well in RPG form*. I also was thinking of removing battles, but that would be too much like OneShot. I don't even know how to make good puzzles!
one bad plugin combo later and one of my followers is moonwalking off the screen on his own... I didn't even more yet on the new map lol.
