I can't seem to get RPGMXP to work properly on my laptop (Windows 8), after trying several times. The only thing it does when opening it is the whole computer freezes up...

I have already tried compatibility mode for Windows XP serv. 2&3, running as admin, and disabling AVG anti-virus.
Also, it would seem this problem is isolated to RPG Maker XP, since I can run VX flawlessly.

I would really appreciate some input on this, as RPG Maker XP is my favorite.

please give us a list of installed programs (if you want to disclose that info) to check for possible conflicting programs.

Another possible cause might be if you're still using the general chipset driver provided by microsoft instead of the correct driver from your mainboard/chip manufacturer, so please state what chipset is used by your mainboard and which company programmed the driver currently used for it. You can check that either by the IDE driver or the bus driver.

Looks like you have a 64-bit Windows – only 32-bit is officially supported by XP.

XP works on my 64-bit Win7

The program list contains several programs that I don't recognize, but nothing that I know as problematic - it would need trial and testing to determine an incompatibility.

What are the programs you have from AVG and from McAfee? If you have installed two antivirus programs at the same time, that might be the cause of the problems...

Yep, my Windows 8 is 64 bit too.

Saying XP is 32 bit merely implies that 64 bit operating systems were not around when XP was created (or were not common). It doesn't mean it won't run on a 64 bit system, just that they didn't go back after the fact and modify the program to take advantage of the changes.

64 bit OS is not the problem.

McAfee was installed on my computer when I got it, and it was the first thing I removed... So I can't see why McAfee would even be a problem.

The problem wouldn't be McAfee specifically, if would be two antivirus programs active at the same time. That will cause problems no matter what company produced them.

In fact, I personally consider McAfee one of the better producers for antivirus software - but if part of their antivirus engine is not removed (and you didn't remove everything because there is a reference to McAfee still in the software) and clashes with the antivirus you installed yourself, then that can be the cause of a lot of different problems.

Okay, well I got it running perfectly now. Turns out, it was McAfee garbage left behind that was interfering.
So to fix this problem, for anyone else that has this problem, I just ran MCPR (A McAfee removal tool) found here: https://community.mcafee.com/thread/52788

Well thanks guys, problem solved!

Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
