Hey, just had a first attempt at this and died. And let me just tell you, it's scary af!
I mean, I'm inspired by horror but this right here is horror. It's almost a bit too scary and intense for me lol.
I think if I pointed out my favourite bits so far it would be a lot of what's said before: the heart condition concept is really clever and interesting (it seems less cheesy than your typical 'sanity' bar, because it's not arbitrarily telling the player how insane they are, more like their physical condition which they can't help). The 'Mother' character and the coloured orbs instantly had me interested, + the setting with the 'house of freaks' sending each other sms is great.
I did have lag problems =( Although maybe not as bad as has been previously described on this thread. I hope that gets better down the line so this game can really shine.
Hey sorry for the late response. I don't think there is anything you can do about the fps dropping, and I doubt it will get better either, but the fps only becomes a problem in the very few chase sequences that exist, depending on how bad it is. As long as you can walk around the house without it freezing completely, it should be playable.
Your comment is very generous, even though I myself don't really agree with it. The atmosphere might be good, but when you think about, it's just a game with a lot of jumpscares. I gave up on the idea of actually scaring the player, rather than Felix, shortly into the production of the game. There are some scares that I still think are good enough to scare the player. My point is that, a bottle falling down is a jumpscare, yes, but when you think about it in real life, your heartbeat would jump if that happened and since Felix can't get his heartbeat down afterwards, the scares are more for the story, not to scare the living **** out of the player.
I know this sounds bad, like "Why make a horror game if you're not gonna make it scary?", but since I already knew my limitations, I went with the road best traveled.
I hope you don't have any major problems with the game other than that, you can always message me too if you need help or anything.
This was actually pretty fun (once I got past the little things that annoyed me)!
- Great use of lighting
- SMS System really added to the experience
- "Sanity" System made exploring worthwhile
- The picture puzzle (for the red gem) with the chase was...very frustrating
- The heartbeat mechanic was great - once I understood it (after dying a few times...)
I can't wait to see what else you've got up your sleeve!
Thanks. Yeah, this game is rather unforgiving at times.
Well in terms of story, it sounds like the heartbeat thing is an interesting mechanic. I really like when new RPG horror games come out, so I'll
probably give this a look.
(On a side-note, the title gave me the idea of someone who was afraid of doing cardio exercises, which I found hilarious for a second)
I'm interested to hear what you thought, even if you didn't like it. The game has been updated since your comment, it's easier to get better endings and updated some puzzle hints etc.
