Change Fonts

I wasn't sure where to post this. I use RPG Maker MV and I have tried literally every work-around for changing fonts. Shouldn't there be an easier option in the program where it makes this job easy?

I literally tried all the suggestions on this forum including getting Yanfly's plugin and nothing seems to work. I keep getting a Now Loading screen. I don't understand how it works for some people but not for others.

Really need to change the font for this game I am working on so either and update or some help would be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried galvs message style to change the font?

Yes even that. At first I thought it was a plugin conflict but when I created a new project with nothing in it, it still doesn't work.

I've literally done all these things before writing this post. If it's not the default font it doesn't work for some reason.

I even tried inputting a Windows font like Verdana with no success...all done with the CSS and plugins. Even on a fresh project it doesn't work.

Can you please show the CSS file from the fresh project as well as a screenshot of your project folder that has the font file?

Can you please describe what you mean by "doesn't work" -- do you get an error or does the game simply run but still uses the default font instead of the font you wanted.
If error, please open the Console and show the full error message from there.

I figured out how to open F12 - Developer Tools - Console
Here is what I found

Error: Failed to load GameFont
at Scene_Boot.isGameFontLoaded (rpg_scenes.js:198)
at Scene_Boot.isReady (rpg_scenes.js:186)
at Function.SceneManager.updateScene (rpg_managers.js:1823)
at Function.SceneManager.updateMain (rpg_managers.js:1790)
at Function.SceneManager.update (rpg_managers.js:1714)

I also got Yanfly's plugin to work by simply downloading message core. Thats one problem solved. Now I need to figure out how to change the entire GameFont

The code in the CSS file is this:

@font-face {
font-family: GameFont;
src: url("apple-kid.ttf");
}

When the code is changed to anything other than the default font, the game will say "Now Loading" for a minute. Then say "error Failed to load Gamefont"

CSS file and the font file name seems fine.

Can you try another font known to work to see whether it's the font itself that has an issue?
In the Developer Tools can you check the Network tab and look for the entry for the font (it's probably in red) and verify the file path it's trying to load vs. the file path where the font file actually is? You probably have to refresh the game with the Developer Tools open for it to show.

Well, I tried Verdana and that didn't work and that was a font in some of the coding. I can get all the fonts to work using Yanfly's Message Core so I think the fonts themselves are okay.

The only font coming up in red is Verdana. The rest of the fonts I want are already loaded and are acting fine besides that fact that I can't replace the Gamefont with them.

I am going to keep looking on how to reload the game through developer tools and see what I get.

Noticed something in the code in Console. This is what it says:

Failed to decode downloaded font: chrome-extension://odlameecjipmbmbejkplpemijjgpljce/fonts/statusplz.ttf
index.html:1

What location on your hard drive is your game project saved in?

*UPDATE*

I finally figured out how to change the font for the entire game.

Open RPG_Windows.js in JS folder

The code you need to change is this:

Window_Base.prototype.standardFontFace = function() {
if ($gameSystem.isChinese()) {
return 'SimHei, Heiti TC, sans-serif';
} else if ($gameSystem.isKorean()) {
return 'Dotum, AppleGothic, sans-serif';
} else {
return 'GameFont';
}
};

Simply replace 'GameFont' with your font of choice. Use font family name and not .ttf file name. In my case I change it to 'Apple Kid' and it worked perfectly.
