Is it possible to set all tiles on say the "D" layer, for example, or all tiles with terrain tag "x" to have a blending mode other than normal?

I've been making some nice shadows and putting them on the D layer. I'm wondering if I can set them to multiply instead of using alpha transparency.

I suspect this would require a plugin, but despite all my searching I've yet to find one that does this, or even a thread discussing it. Does anybody know of a plugin that does? Or is it even possible in the first place?

there is no plugin for that one, and while many use tileID to provide nice addings,
and when you use this, can be troublesome though.

a plugin for full tileID might be possible, but if you want a nicer look, you can try
to make a parallax groud for it, and build over it as you go.

some use full parallax to creates maps, just because you have more possibilities,
like blending modes and much more, 1 shadow darker than others, more dynamic
and neutral than editor etc.

You would need to create a sprite for the D tiles instead of drawing them directly on the map. The upcoming VisuMZ Doodads can do that, but it'll be creating a separate sprite for each tile.

In your case I think using a parallax layer might actually be the better option.

Extending on Hudell's answer, you should get Yanfly's Grid Free Doodads. That's for RMMV. If you don't want to use a plugin, you can make an event with that graphic and put it in places where you want. Too many events can cause lag btw.

Ah sorry I missed the fact that this was for MV;
The MV version of the doodads didn't have the ability to place tiles directly from the tileset so she would need to save the shadows as separate images on the doodads folder, but it would work too.

Wow, thanks for replying so quickly, everyone!

I was thinking I might have to go this route if I really wanted to blend the shadows.
My understanding is if I were to make a parallax layer for the map it'd be one huge image of all the shadows on the map, right?

@Destra47 it depends on your size of the map, but a parallax layer can be a huge image,
specailly if its bigger than 100x100+ but that has teh ground, mud, shadows etc
on it as starter place, with orange mapshot, you can get the size you of the map,
so shadow on it is a nice way.

from tileset, a plugin is needed to handle this for you. but I think if you want a blend mode
try requesting it via note tag, like <Tileset: D, multiply> so it only count for that one set
instead of every tileset if its in general :)

that would be m opinion, but it's totally find in any way you see fit.
