Alright, here's my situation:

I have a section on the overworld where I want my character to pass through a forest on a trail. Simple, right? Well the thing is, I want the player to stick to the trail, and the only way I can think of is to make the trees surrounding the path impassible.

However, (and here's my problem) I don't want to make ALL of the trees impassible, just the specific ones in this specific forest. I'm thinking that I'd have to use a region somehow, but I don't even know where to begin with that. Any help on this, or an alternative suggestion as upon how to solve my dilemma would be very much appreciated. I'd rather not have a bunch of mountains or walls along the trail; it would just look silly for what I'm trying to do.

You could choose a tileset for C and have the empty tile in the upper left being not passable. Then use that tile around your path. :)

Yeah, what Dominoe said. Just have two empty tiles, make sure they are transparent. You can do this easily with an editing programa like GIMP (and thats free!). Change the passability settings in the VX tileset thingy, one passable one impassable, then just use the impassable tile to cover the area you don't want players to walk through. I like to have the passable tile too just in case I need to make adjustments, too! :3

If you don't need any event on the spot, you can also set impassable event (same layer as player) without any graphic to block that tile off.

As side note: Events are overall a good way to have one more layer when mapping. :)

you could make 2 events (above player) one event showing the bottom of the tree and the second one show the top of the tree.

Honestly, the easiest thing to do is just make a duplicate tileset with the un-passable trees and use it for that forest map only. :)
Also, if the trees are supposed to be passable at certain times, have the duplicate tileset and then switch tilesets to "toggle" passability.

Of course you can always use scripts to change the passability of the tileset but what's the point.

Back in action to develop the indie game that has been long overdue... Final Fallacy. A game that keeps on giving! The development never ends as the developer thinks to be the smart cookie by coming back and beginning by saying... "Oh bother, this indie game has been long overdue..." How could one resist such?
