Yes it is, there's two ways about it.

First you could imput the graphics for the tileset into the characters folder. Then make an event using a new page with a special switch on like open is on... have this page blank so the wall will disappear.

then there's the script method, which can be seen here: http://www.rpgmakervxace.net/topic/3873-tile-swap-20/

I imported the tileset into the character folder, but now I can't select the graphic properly. Any way to solve this?

Put a $ at the begging of the tilesets name. That should fix it.

Thanks for the help, but I used the script. Also, does putting an $ before names from custom tilesets always help? Cause they don't always fit properly in the database when I download them from here.

Not a problem, it may very well work... but I'm not entirely sure. If they do not fit properly in the database, make sure you are putting them in the right slots in the maps database.

Yes the script is the easier method.

You do not need to import the tileset into a character to use the grafics as an event, the B-Tiles and following are automatically available as event graphics even while in the tileset definition, just scroll down the list when choosing an event's picture.
Quite the contrary, just importing the tileset never helps, you'll need to change the tile from the tileset into a sprite picture (which is a lot more preparation work in an image programm like GIMP or Photoshop) before you can use it that way.

And no, putting a $ before the name of character files doesn't always help - it's there for a very specific case (switch between single and 4x2 character sheets), and in all other cases it will not help.

The tile I needed happened to be in section A.  And how does it come some tilesets fit and some don't? And how do you change a tile from a tileset into a sprite picture? And I am also looking for profession-based tilesets. Like an Alchemy set or a Smithing table and oven.

Requesting help finding tiles goes into a different section of the forums. You really shouldn't be adding new questions into the middle of the thread anyway. The A tiles aren't interchangeable, something labeled A1 has to go in the A1 slot or it doesn't work right. The B-E tiles generally are interchangeable.

I know you're excited to get to making things right away but it's worth the time to step back, read the manual (hit F1 in the maker to pull it up) read the rules of the forum and maybe look through a few tutorials made specifically for new users. Many of the questions you've been asking have already been explained in those places.

First of all, I am sorry I asked the question in the wrong section of the forums. I should have seen that. And second, are the questions I asked that basic? I mean changing a tile in a sprite picture isn't that basic, I guess?

Yes, this is fairly basic stuff if you're going to make a whole custom game. Some tilesets don't "work" because they're made for "parallaxing" -- that is, you don't import them at all, you simply cut them up in Photoshop to create a map. Definitely check out some tutorials, and all this stuff will start to make a lot more sense! :)

It's not basic, but a lot of your questions are things that result in not knowing the basics before trying to do all the cool things. There's a tutorial about doing just what you're asking. Um, let's see. Here: http://forums.rpgmakerweb.com/index.php?/topic/9396-easy-tile-swapping/
Well, I followed that tutorial after CorneredCosmos recommended me that script. But, I guess I know what you mean.

@Tommy gun: Parallax mapping looks really awesome, but also really difficult! I think I am just gonna stick to the easy way.

$ has NO EFFECT at all on tilesets. $ and ! are symbols used on CHARACTER SPRITES to make the engine treat them differently. Tilesets do not use them at all.

Frederik: I just made a video tutorial explaining how sprites work -- it doesn't specifically address your question about changing the graphic, but I do discuss animating a little bit:

so hopefully tomorrow i get to go home from the hospital i've been here for 5 days already and it's driving me mad. I miss my family like crazy but at least I get to use my own toiletries and my own clothes. My mom is coming to visit soon i can't wait to see her cause i miss her the most. :kaojoy:
Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
