I'm completely new to RPGMaker and this feels like kind of a dumb cuestion, so apologies in advance.

I downloaded and imported some tilesets from the forum, but when I try to change tilesets by right clicking and going into map properties, the whole maps goes bananas and redraws itself using tiles from the new tileset. My first thought was that I did something wrong while importing, but the same thing happens when changing between default tilesets (say Interiors and Dungeon, for example). Looking around for an answer I found a youtube video where the author does exactly what I was trying to do; importing tilesets the same way I did, selecting them via map properties and using them in an existing map with no weird stuff happening. That left me even more confused.

So... I don't really know what the problem is or how to fix it. I have the feeling it must be extremely obvious, but I've been through it again and again with no luck. Thanks in advance.

What you're experiencing is the expected behavior of the program. You'll need to re-draw your maps using the new tilesets; the program doesn't magically know what tiles you want where, unfortunately.

Did you check if you used the tilesets in the right places? A1 Tileset in A1, A2 in A2 and so on?

(for b-e Tiles it doesn't mater but you need to redraw them anyway because there are no specification how the tiles there are placed)

You get ONE tileset per map. If you change it in map properties, your whole map - including everything you've already done - will change to use the new tileset.

If you want to have combinations of different tilesets on a single map, you have to make a new tileset and pull the tile images together that you want to use. This may involve creating new tileset sprites and copying parts from other tilesets, because you can only have one A1, A2, A3, A4 and A5 tile sheet, and they MUST go into the correct slots.

Just a quick breakdown in case you're still a little confused.

A1 Animation - Water, Lava, etc.

A2 Ground

A3 Buildings

A4 Walls

A5 Normal

B-E are extra slots for pretty much anything decorative, like cups, or chairs.

Also make sure you assign the right tags, and whether its a tile you can move on (O), can't pass through (X), or is above the character (☆).

Go into the Database > Tilesets > and edit away.

I had the impression that you could just switch tilesets to quickly add extra things, like a column from the Dungeon set inside a house, for example. Anyway, good to know that is not a problem with my program, but impossible to do. Thank you very much for the quick responses and all the info, I'll start editing the tilesets right away.

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
