I would like to allow people to create their character at the beginning, but I have one problem.

I want the player to be able to change their default look ingame in the creation menu.

I prefer to do this without scripts, since I'm try to make a series of good games that don't take as much creating (I obviously realize that need to work on it, I just want a simpler to develop game).

So how do I go about this?

Without scripts is the hard way lol.

You'd need a bunch of Common events and menu pictures and I don't even know how many condition branches and..and..and..

The quick and dirty; track when the player presses the open menu button, call the menu common event, display pictures, track what the player presses on the controller, adjust the menu based on that, run commands to change what the player wants to do.

If it's a fixed number of character sprites (like "Choose Your Character"), you can do it pretty easily with Conditional Branches.

If you want to let the player change things like hair length, hair color, height, hat, etc., you absolutely need scripts.

I meant a fixed number of character sprites (although a script for the latter would nice for my future projects).

So how do I go about this?

You have to use the change actor graphic command in either conditional branches or in show choices.

Easiest option would be to make a series of show choices where the player can choose what he wants, and have the corresponding change graphic inside the choosen branch.

I also want to create Character Editor without Scripts (Maybe RGSS3  Commands in Events to make things easier).

My Solution is:

Making the Player invisible and than we use EventId 1 to 5 for our Charakter.

Event Ids lay perfect above each other.

But one has to build own movement event and some mechanic so when map get löoaded events get correct grafic and map position.

Till now iam too lazy. I wanted to use the Ace standard Char Generator Parts (Only a few to set System up)

So i supose Script could be easier.

A Visual Eqipment Script could maybe somehow changed to what you want.

Thanks!

One more thing, though: I designed it so it asks for confirmation when you select a character. How do I make it go back up the dialogue tree when you select "no"?

either labels or loop - depends on how you did the event, please provide a screenshot for more details

I would put a label above "Please choose your character." and then Jump to Label after every 'No' option. Loops are kinda messy, generally speaking.

There's a demo by titanhex that use event for character creation somewhere. It looks good. Maybe you can use that demo as reference. Sorry I cannot give you the link. Posting from my phone. But you can google it.

Edit: btw the demo is event tutorial demo (demo that tech people how to event). Not his real game demo.

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
