Character Event Choice Loop

I am new to the RPG Maker, and I am trying to do something that is probably simple for many of you. I would appreciate any suggetions/help I could get on this issue.

It's hard to explain in words without seeing it, but the sequence is as follows:

1) Main Character is transported to an NPCs house (autorun, works fine)

2) The NPC (who is an event with a character graphic), is set to autorun in the house. The event is first a simple text message, followed by choices. All choices are just questions and answers (more text) .All of this is on event page 1.

3) On page 2 of the same event , I put just a simple text message on action button.

What I am trying to do is have the events on page #1 run first automatically, with the only action by the user is choosing what questions to ask. Then, events on page #1 should stop and be removed. The graphic of the event should remain, and the choices are now replaced by event page #2 (step 3).

But, what happens is it skips page #1 and goes right to page #2. How can I get the sequence correct?

Page 2 takes priority over 1, unless you give it a Condition. In your case a simple Self Switch should do the job.

On Page 1 at the end of the event, add a Control Self Switch command, that turns Self Switch A ON.
Under Page 2, Conditions, set it to Self Switch A ON.

At the end of Page 1 where you want it to move to Page 2, include a Contrl Self-Switch, and turn A on.

Go to page 2 and set the condition to Self-Switch A ON. That should do it.

What you're probably wanting to use is a Self Switch.

At the end of Page 1 set Self Switch A to On from the Game Progression area.

On page 2 just set the same graphic for your NPC, but above it on the left, tick the box next to Self Switch. Make sure A is selected.

Doing this will let the game know that once the original autorun stuff is done, that you don't want it to happen again.

Edit: At least no one can argue with us about Self Switches.  :guffaw:

Everyone else has already explained the sequence of pages and how switches can be used so I won't repeat what has already been said.

But after reading your post I think I should point this out, because it might come in handy for you.  RPG Maker VX Ace has a really handy tool called Label and Jump To Label under flow control in page 1 of your event commands.  Way it works (and if you already know I apologize) is it lets you write specific labels during your events that serve as markers you can jump to at any time you want. This makes creating event choice loops really easy and gives you a lot of freedom to control your conversations.

Thanks all for your help, I appreciate it. I didn't know about the label tool or that page 2 takes priority of over page 1 (I was thinking it was backwards). Thanks again.

Ok that switch deal worked. But now I have another problem, which I should have realized in the first place. What happens now is the player does 1 choice, and then I guess the switch activates page 2.

The NPC gives the player 4 choices. What I would like to happen is the player do all 4 requests, then the switch takes places, leaving the 2nd event. How do I force the plar to do all 4 choices? Do I do a Loop and then an if then...or is there an easier way?

Any help would be appreciated. I know this is more complex than my first request.

That sounds like you're teetering into Variables territory. Personally, I'm still confused by them, but that might be where you're headed, bud.

Edit: I should note that I meant headed to Variables territory, not confusion.  :p

Ok then this might be above me. Maybe I will just do a forced text dialogue...no need for options.

Edit: We can close this post. I will not use those options until I get better with the maker. Thanks to all who helped.

so hopefully tomorrow i get to go home from the hospital i've been here for 5 days already and it's driving me mad. I miss my family like crazy but at least I get to use my own toiletries and my own clothes. My mom is coming to visit soon i can't wait to see her cause i miss her the most. :kaojoy:

Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
