I have a question about character faces.

I'm really far into the game I'm working on and I have a ton of character faces, some the same character but different expressions. And it's starting to take up a lot of room, where if I want to use one of the actor, people, etc. faces I have to scroll down through a list everytime I add their faces to text. I know for the default character faces in the game they have 8 face images for each selection, and I was wondering if there's anyway I can group mine together like that to save space.

I am not sure exactly what you are asking.

If you are asking rather or not you can expand the individual file size of a face set beyond 8 I am not sure.

But if you are asking rather or not you can add multiple faces to a single text message, Shaz wrote this incredibly useful script  that does just that.  I will try to link it when I can, though I would prefer someone else do it since my forum controls are not functioning.

I'm talking about how for the default character faces like this. Is there anyway I can have the character faces i made with the generator group together like this so it isn't taking up as much space on the list

Ah ok, I get you now.

What you can is just copy and paste the newly created faces into a new file.  Just compile them youself.

For example:

Make a copy of that face file you posted and call it something else.  Then just add the new faces you generate onto it and delete the old single versions if you need to free up space in your folder.

You will need to use an image editing program like Gimp, Photoshop ect.

There may be other ways, but that is how I do it.

WARNING!!

It is a good idea to use the 2x4 outlay to save space in the database and to make your life easier, but if you are significantly far along, you WILL have to go back and redo* all the dialogue you already have, as the database ID will have changed. Something to keep in mind, but definitely a good lesson for next time too!

*by redo I mean you will have to go in each set of dialogue and reselect the correct face image. The text will be intact!

For tasks like this, you should find a script that allows you to update all of your events, feeding in a file to tell it how to update references

So for example, you might say

Code:
original name, original index, new name, new index"ActorHappy1",0,"Actor1", 2"ActorHappy2",0,"Actor1", 3"ActorHappy3",0,"Actor1", 4

I started working on this idea with Gimp, but it's taking quite some time. Going and making sure all images are aligned correctly then going and changing them all in game. took me an hour to do 2 and a half characters (I have a lot of dialogue)

Sorry I've been on the phone.

I can help you with this process if you like.  Just think of the faces as if they were arranged on a tile grid measured in pixels.  Each tile is 32x32, and each face is 3 tiles horizontal and 3 tiles vertical.  So each face is 96x96 pixels and takes up 9 tiles in total.

Here is a grid I made to help you.  Hopefully you can use it to help you line them up easier.  Unfortunately I don't use Gimp so I can't give you any specifics about what tools are most useful for this.  But I would imagine you can select the face and them move them along the x and y axis.

So for example: if you were wanting to move a face to the right on the grid you would add 96 pixels to its x coordinate.  Subtract 96 to move it to the left.

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
