Not sure if this is the place for this thread, sorry if not the case :(

As the title states I'm having issues with naming one of the main characters for my game.

Here you have her:

And this is a description of her according to the protagonist:
"I really don't know much about her... she usually avoids people... but somehow we're good friends. She has this weird habit of dressing like a ninja (I always wonder if she doesn't feel hot with all those clothes), she also fights like a ninja, she is so stealthy and agile... maybe she practices by hiding from others... Her favorite subject is history, especially japanese history."

Perhaps I'll eventually come up with a name, but I'd like to hear some suggestions too :kaohi:

I got my own couple of names, but here are some:

1: Iliona
2: Nadia
3: Riese
4: Maddy
5: Lisa
6: (she can be mysterious and never give her name) until much later in the game?

@ShadowDragon I really like the first one. Even if I go for the mysterious route, sooner or later she'll need a name xd

Develop her more. The more you know about your main character, not only the better, but things like a name will (or should) become more clear. I do it with mine and I'm a big fan of Dungeons and Dragons. Sure, I may pick a race and class first but the more I know about who I am trying to play, the name may be more fitting.

If they have some sort of personal treasure, maybe switch letters around. Maybe use another language or even combine a few words.

there is one game I played when I was young, and the name was never showed.
but 2 sequels later, the name become visible to close the chapter.

whenever you give the name or not is really up to you.

Questions can be stayed like:
Does she only show up oneor twice?
does she show up more often that give clues behind about her and her name?
does she gives clue only a few people know her real indentity?
will those people give her name to lure her for more info?

Many question can be open for not given or when fully trusted :)

I second Nadia, it's a lovely name and I really think it would fit her.

@AmazingKazuki Thanks for the advice! You're right, she still a fresh character, I'll fool around with her a bit and hopefully something will come out.

@ShadowDragon Wow! That surely is mysterious. However my character mostly hides her physical aspect, not exactly her entire being, although I recognize that mystery around characters its a spicy feature :kaopride:

@Kristina Thank you for the suggestions, I'm not really sure if I also like the Nadia name for her, but there's nothing decided yet.

I like to use baby name websites, and try not to name the characters based on the way they are but based on how their parents would have named them. I named my Princess Blodwyn because her kingdoms culture is similar to Welsh and because the name means "White Flower" which very much sounds like a proper name for a Princess.

You can also take the FF approach and name based on history or myth.
Ancient gods or characters from epics always make for good names.

@The Mighty Palm Interesting approach, I haven't thought like that (So if I ever have kids they'll probably stay one year nameless)

I tried to avoid that since I think its a bit overused... but Gilgamesh might do it.

*cough*

that said, you can always give her a code name and not a real name, and add to the mystery factor.

I'm really bad at finding names, but that little website helped me A LOT.
https://www.fantasynamegenerators.com/

I don't really pick the exacte names the generator give me, but sometimes I mixte the names to make one I like, or other times the way a name sound give me the inspiration for a name. Maybe this site can also help other people.

I look up famous people of the past, like adventurers, scientist or nobles etc they often have really good names.
Also citynames or other locations around the world, can be names for characters.
Sometimes translating words into latin and mix them with other words, has good results, too.

just posted a song I made for my game a while back... I sampled the HEY from Earthworm Jim's Snot a problem levels lol...
Based on this screenshot alone, which one would you sell, and which to equip?
