Hello All,

I'm having a bit of trouble wrapping my head around what I think should be a fairly simple event.

Here is what I want to happen:

Main Actor enters scene.

Secondary Actor approaches.

Actors have a brief conversation.

Second Actor joins party and the event disappears.

So far I have had the following results:

The Second Actor joins the party, but, his event does not disappear(My closest result but clones are not in my story).

The Main Actor is locked in place.

The Second Actor is stuck in a loop walking and talking his way across the screen.

I've been flipping switches and erasing events.

Any assistance getting me out of my infinite loop would be most appreciated.

Having fun with the program otherwise.

:)

(ps. I've added a screen shot of where I left off after all my hair fell out).

You likely just need a second page with a condition, even just a condition of Self Switch A is on, and then turn Self Switch A on at the end of your event. I wrote a tutorial that might help with autorun eventing (and even so, I still make some of the same mistakes...)

So far, it seems you are not using switches correctly. Think of a switch as a way to turn things ON and OFF in your game.

Let's see if I can help here...

-Main Actor enters scene.

Ok, you got this covered. This should be the starting point of your event.

-Secondary Actor approaches.

Move event toward the Main Actor, ok.

-Actors have a brief conversation.

Show Text. Simple enough.

-Second Actor joins party and the event disappears.

Now it's time to correct your little bug.

Add your second Actor to the Party.

Change the Self Switch A to ON.

Create a New Page of events and select Self Switch A as a requisite for it to work. Also, change the event process from Auto to Action Button, and the graphics of the event to none.

What all of this does?

After all the events on the first page, it ensures that page won't repeat itself, as the engine will now look for the events on the second page (since Self Switch A is now ON). Even if the player uses now the Action Button on the now transparent event, it won't do a thing since the second page of events is blank.

Is that clear?

It sounds clear until I try the follow through. What is unclear is which self switch on what page perhaps?

Do I set as a condition "Self-Switch" On, in the conditions drop down or insert after the dialogue, after the party combines?

This is why I am banging my head on my desk(not really). Or no self switch 1st page of event and then toggle the drop down for self switch AND add/insert after dialogue or party join. I'm about to bust out a spread sheet so I can "check" each combo. lol.

The worst worst part?

I've done this before successfully and them simply had less time for it.

So remembering something that makes my brain feel worked out? a  ha ha ha.

I'll keep trying.

(oooooor is it where I've placed the event?

its tough so i am gonna feel like a rockstar when i finally understand. lol.

I suggest you'll go to work through some basic tutorials on switches, for example the ones in the starting point linked in my signature.

But basically you need two pages - you cannot turn off the autorun (which is automatically restarting, creating the loop) without a second page.

And to switch off the autorun, the control self-switch command needs to be at the end of the first page, and the condition to the self-switch needs to be on the second page (which must not be autorun)

so hopefully tomorrow i get to go home from the hospital i've been here for 5 days already and it's driving me mad. I miss my family like crazy but at least I get to use my own toiletries and my own clothes. My mom is coming to visit soon i can't wait to see her cause i miss her the most. :kaojoy:
Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
