So, this is a bit down the road, like the 4th chapter, and I haven't even finished the first, but I want to have one of the chapters in my game take place in an arena.
My main inspiration is Paper Mario : The Thousand Year Door.
So, I was thinking, what if there were crowds cheering as you pulled off strong attacks, and booing as you took damage, but only temporarily, so I'd be able to turn it on and off with a switch or something.
It probably wouldn't affect the gameplay so much, but it'd do wonders for atmosphere of that section.

You can of course use this thread to discuss ideas on how to make it affect the gameplay as well, I'm mostly curious though what plugins and such I would even use to accomplish something like that, but I want discussion as well, so don't move this to the plugin request page.

Oh, and I myself am thinking of how this would work when using a more traditional, turn based, battle system, but you can discuss how this would work using like ATB's and stuff as well in this thread.

I really don't know if it's a good method, I guess I'd use Yanfly's Status Core and create invisble states that summon common events when a party member takes a set amount of damage. Probably a different state for the enemies... And in those events, simply do something like:
Variable [x] = 1...3
If 1 -> play this SE
If 2 -> play that SE
If 3 -> play another SE
To mix things up a little bit.
(This the first idea that popped in my head reading your post, there's most likely a lot of ways to improve it)
Simply apply those states when needed through eventing before/at the begining of the fight and cleanse them when you're done.
Maybe I'd try to layer those SE on a BGS, but I'm afraid with the music it might be a bit too much, I'm terrible at sound design :LZSlol:

As for gameplay, you could have a spirit gauge of some sort, your characters being buffed if the crowd is with them, but debuffed if they're booing. Though that might tricky to balance (if the crowd's booing, I assume the party is already struggling? I guess it depends).
You could make it so that each time those SE common events are triggered, they add +1 or -1 to a variable. And depending on the value of that variable, some buffs/debuffs are applied to whoever? I don't really know if it's a good idea, just a sudden thought ^^

No idea how you could display that gauge though or if there would even be the need for one...

I've heard the status core recommended a couple times to me, so that's definitely something I should learn more about. So, create a persistent state that will only have it's affects when you take a set amount of damage? I haven't worked with it, though I'm sure once I look more into it, I could figure out how to do what you suggested.

As far as the gameplay implementation, I know that in Paper Mario : the Thousand Year Door (the game that gave me the idea) you would gain points by performing action commands well (timed button presses, ect) when attack and blocking damage.
These "star point" would accumulate and you could use them to perform special, super powerful attacks.
I don't know if there would be any other way of implementing them, but that's how the audience was used in the source material for the idea.

Since you're mostly searching for plugins, I've moving this thread to Plugin Requests.

It was actually meant to be more of a discussion of the mechanic though, plugins being something that would of course come up, but not the main focus of the discussion.
You're the mod though, so it's your choice, that's just not where I would place it personally, @slimmmeiske2, though you'd likely be a better judge than I would.

Also, I literally said this in the post, specifically not to move it to that page, because I wanted to have discussion of not just how to implement the idea, but also ideas on how it would function, as a broader discussion of the idea.

Maybe you just skimmed through it, and saw the word "plugin" and thought I just didn't know where to put it, but if you did read the full post, and pay attention to the comments, and still chose to move it there, I respect your decision.

^ You're asking for plugins/how to implement it, so Game Mechanics Discussion is not a fit, sorry.
And yes, I read your post, but as I mentioned since you seemed more interested in implementation (which plugins to use etc.) than actual discussion of the mechanic I moved it.

Our latest feature is an interview with... me?!

People4_2 (Capelet off and on) added!

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
Can someone recommend some fun story-heavy RPGs to me? Coming up with good gameplay is a nightmare! I was thinking of making some gameplay platforming-based, but that doesn't work well in RPG form*. I also was thinking of removing battles, but that would be too much like OneShot. I don't even know how to make good puzzles!
one bad plugin combo later and one of my followers is moonwalking off the screen on his own... I didn't even more yet on the new map lol.
