Just looking for some input if this set up would be weird:

Having Chibi characters walking around on the map but having tall battlers.

My reasoning is that I have a lot of NPC’s end it would be too daunting to make all of them tall characters.

However I can edit by hand a few of the battler sprites.

Would this be too jarring and keep them the same? Or would this be OK?

Some people would mind, some people wouldn't mind. I'm the latter.

I wouldn't mind. However, I see people did like that which can be complicated for you.

Some oldskool games I played back in the day were like that actually haha
So not a problem for me as long as the battle is separated enough from the map.

What I mean is if you do that then also use battlebacks instead of having it on the same map for example

It's an old school route that any RPG veteran is all to familiar with. No one would likely even notice unless they are the picky type. But you find out quickly people will have far other things to nit pick about anyway, so just go for it.

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
