I'll never forget this game. I played the DS version; I believe some people were angry that they didn't do more to update it, but I'm just grateful to have experienced this great classic. Plus the movies were a nice bonus; I can't tell you how many times I watched "Masamune Unsheathed"!

Anyway, it was a Christmas present from my dad in 2008. He'd heard me talking about the game all the time, and just happened to see it in a store. I approached it very cautiously. I was, after all, about to step onto holy ground of the RPG world.

In short (REALLY short), Chrono Trigger is the ONLY game that left me feeling empty inside after I finished it. Everything about it was so perfect, and I was so sad when it was all over. The characters, the music, the story, the battle system... everything. Toward the end of the game, I'd settled into a party of Crono/Marle/Robo, but after I got a bunch of Lapis/Ambrosia items and didn't need a dedicated healer anymore, I replaced Marle with Ayla while tackling the bonus content.

I was floored by the bonus content and what it added to the story. Holy crap, I can't tell you how pumped I was fighting the last post-game boss.

The time travel is ingenious. I love the way the world subtly changes over the ages. I remember just standing on the frigid coastline in 12,000 BC and just basking in the atmosphere. The Middle Ages held a lot of great moments for me personally. This game is a true masterpiece.

So who else here was really impressed by Chrono Trigger?

You know, considering how easy the game is even on a first playthrough, I feel that Chrono Trigger is a prime example that easy games are not necessarily always bad by default. Just noting a preconception some gamers tend to have about easier games.

P.S: I loved Chrono Trigger as well. Definitely in my Top 10 favorite RPGs of all time. :)

You know what's funny, I used to be one of those people to scoff at "easy" games. But over the years, I guess I slowly changed.

For me, concerning the difficulty, Chrono Trigger was nothing less than enjoyable. I personally was very eager to push forward and see what would happen next.

Did you get Magnus in your party? =o

It's kinda easy to miss him for many people but he's so worth it, with all those II spells and stronger Shadow-element spells than Robo's lasers.

Also you should go through NewGame+ and beat Lavos every single opening possible to get the different endings.

Yeah, I got Magus, but I didn't really use him. Actually, I already knew a lot about the plot and what happens from reading about it (when I didn't think I'd ever play the game), but there were still plenty of surprises and I still thoroughly enjoyed the game, which I think says a lot for it.

And yeah, I did the New Game+ thing; can't believe I forgot to mention that. In the DS version, I think "The Successor of Guardia" is one of the funniest endings. The beginning of "The Oath" was great too; at the risk of spoiling anything, you get to see a few of the characters in more of a relaxed atmosphere. I also loved the one where Marle and Lucca "reviewed" all the guys in the story.

It's funny how Lucca isn't really developed for most of the game, but toward the end, when you discover the truth about her mother... it's well worth the wait.

Such a great game.

Ehh idunno about that Shin. I felt Chrono Trigger was "complete" and another game for it might go wrong somewhere, even if it had that random "your mother and that cat jump into a time gate at the very end of the game and you chase after it with the epoch" ending anyways.

Actually the game Chrono Trigger was not done in Development and had a few more scenarios in the work and even had a character sheet for battle animation and stuff for Schala already in the game to make her a playable character as it is now. (That would have been freakin faboulous!!)

Plus it was made by some very famous that was the only Colab for them together and prob what started and lead up to Square and Enix ultimately becoming one company.

and then when the PS1 version added the Cemina scenes...drool.

Need a Chrono Trigger Anime Series!

WTF would you ever be happy with Chrono Trigger ending...

Chrono Forever!!

Chrono Trigger or die!

Chrono Resurrection wasn't a sequel. It was a fan-made game that remade some of CT's memorable scenes into full 3D. Last I checked, it was never planned to be a full game anyway, so I really wouldn't know how to feel about playing just a tease.

As for sequels, I thought Chrono Cross did well as a spiritual successor with its minor winks and nods to its predecessor. It stood well enough as its own game as well.

Cross Cross Sucked.

Chrono Resurrection was still freaking godly.

Rainbow Shell? OMFG! You didn't finish all of the game...sad. The Rainbow Shell quest is one of the most memorable scenarios in the game and "unlocks" most of the badass armors and weapons!

I think he refers more to the Rainbow Shell + Kino = Rainbow Shell Kino. But that is a misunderstanding.
===
My final party on the SNES was Chrono, Frog and Ayla. I used them for the majority of the game, well, just after getting Ayla to be precise. I used Frog+Ayla DoubleTech for healing and spammed some TripleTech for heavy damage. And some other stuff I think... it is such a long time since I played the game.

So, yeah, Chrono Trigger is one of my favorites. It was my favorite until I got to play Live a Live, which cautivated me horribly, and later I got RomancingSaGa, which inevitably made me a fanboy of a dead franchise :'D... I HATE YOU SQUARE!! So, it's my third place between my overall favorite games (whose are filled completely by RPGs, and most of them from SNES).

Chrono Trigger is a masterpiece, and I think I've never encountered anyone that doesn't says so. Everything is great, but nothing overlaps anything. I mean, there are games with this great thing but that lacks something else. Chrono Trigger is a game that feels complete because everything on it is equally great. Name it graphics, music, battles, world construction, story, characters... I can't say the game is perfect, but it seems like it in such a way that I don't really care.

This is the kind of games that didn't really needed any remake. Nintendo, instead of making a DS remake of it, could had just put it into the virtual console. And about the DS remake. I was one of those that thought the remake was "****" because it was a carbon copy with some menu adaptations for stylus support. And extra content. But now I think, did I really wanted it to change anything? I don't. I felt happy with how it was.

The only thing I want remade is-- no, I don't want any remake anymore, I just wanted a translation of RomaSaGa2,

The Rainbow Shell was a sidequest towards the end of the game that gave you amazing weapons and armor. (choice of 3x Prismatic Helms or 1x Prismatic Dress (get the helms), the Rainbow Sword which is Chrono's best weapon, and the Prism Spectacles (greatly boosts damage accessory))

The travelling adventurer Toma in one of the 600 A.D. towns mentions it, and tells you to pour this bottled water over his grave if he ever dies on his travels. You find his grave in 1000 A.D.  on the world map (yeah he dies q_q  )  and use the bottle to speak with his ghost, and he tells you he found it in an island cave nearby back in 600 A.D.

Not gonna spoil anything else from there. However you'll need to finish the Sun Stone sidequest in order to get the Rainbow Sword and Spectacles.

On another note, my preferred End-Game party is Chrono (DPS), Frog (DPS) and Robo (healer)   I freaking love Frog's critical attack animation, and with upgraded sidequest Masamune + Hero's Badge, CRITS EVERYWHERE!!!  =D

I know all about the Rainbow Shell quest, I just didn't know or remember that it had anything to do with Kino...

I loved Chrono Trigger, I loved it's first Sequel: Radical Dreamers, and the second Sequel: Chrono Cross. Too bad Chrono Break never got into development.

My favorite part of Chrono Trigger was 12,000 BC, inside the Kingdom of Zeal, shame you only go there twice in the whole game... Magus was my favorite character, as a villain and as playable (you would think he would have 6,666 hp when you unlock him like when you fight him but noooo...) but at least Dark Bomb kills almost anything.

The only downfall I have with Chrono Trigger was the character development, now I know what you are thinking and your going to complain about Chrono Cross's 42 playable characters and all the stuff, but even characters that were actually part of the plot in Chross where a bit more development than an average Chrono Character, exception of Frog and Magus.

Okay, enough talk about Cross...

Fun Fact: Chrono Trigger and Secret of Mana were started as the same project, the game was actually suppose to be for the CD console Nintendo and Sony teamed up to do. (Then Nintendo betrayed Sony and had Phillips make the CDI).

Wasn't that a hilarious mistake.

I did read that Secret of Mana was downscaled... but are you saying that the content that was cut from it became Chrono Trigger!?

I did think they had similar graphical styles... even my nephew said "Man, that looks just like Secret of Mana" when he briefly glanced at the game.

EDIT: Whoa, whoa, wait a minute. Now I'm seeing some serious parallels. The Black Omen = The Mana Fortress!?

CR would've been a beautiful tech demo like FF7's PS3 demo. There was a lot of hype for it, but ultimately it would have been an incomplete experience.

Chrono Cross was under the unfair advantage of living under its predecessor's giant shadow, but taken as its own game, it has its own merits.

Yay, now back in action Happy Christmas time, coming back!

Back in action to develop the indie game that has been long overdue... Final Fallacy. A game that keeps on giving! The development never ends as the developer thinks to be the smart cookie by coming back and beginning by saying... "Oh bother, this indie game has been long overdue..." How could one resist such? No-one c
So I was playing with filters and this looked interesting...

Versus the normal look...

Kind of gives a very different feel. :LZSexcite:
To whom ever person or persons who re-did the DS/DS+ asset packs for MV (as in, they are all 48x48, and not just x2 the pixel scale) .... THANK-YOU!!!!!!!!! XwwwwX
