Class weapons problem RMXP

So, I've been messing around with rpg maker x which i bought earlier today, only to scrap everything i've done because i wanted a character select screen. now i figured this out on my own fairly quickly after staring at the screen till my eyes burned... Any way, finally when i managed to get the script right to change the players skin, name and class i encountered a new problem which is starting equipment, a ridiculous, pain in the rear. First set up is fine with the fighter character, he has all his stuff, groovy. When i went to test the other choices they'd spawn with their armor but nothing else, now i read on the forum before signing up that some one just manually changed all the weapons in the actor class drop down menu thing and that worked for them. It has not for me, so if anyone can tell me how to remedy this without having to stick in a shop keeper or friendly npc who gives you free stuff that would be great. Thanks!


In the mean time ill keep trying

We probably need to see screenshots of your actors and their classes, as well as the event that does the class selection.


We really can't help based on just a description, as we need to see HOW you've done it, and often a description gives a misleading view.  If you can post those screenshots, I'm sure we can get you going.

so first image (rmxpevent001) is the "character" selection process, i discovered fairly quickly that changing actor didn't work so i had to change the skin, name and class of actor 1.


second image: (theclassweaponproblem) shows the basic fighter load out if you will which fine it works, the problem comes next.


third image: (thedilema) when switching actor 1's classes to change the starting equipment the armor sticks about the weapons go awol even if i click "fixed" as soon as i test play the game only the fighter class load out remains the same including the weapon but when i start the game as the hunter character, poof no weapon. While I've not tested it for my other "characters" the hunter character not having his bow makes me think that I'll encounter the same problem thus i came to you for help.  I should point out ive gone back and forth trying to change the class load outs to include the weapons but as soon as one works the other stops. if you need shots from in test play let me know.

Okay.


The Change Equipment commands will only work if you actually have that equipment in inventory.  And what you'll find is that if your actor is set up to have one item by default, and you use that command to equip him with something else (and it's in your inventory), you'll end up with the original item in inventory afterwards.


So for all your actors where the player can select the class, remove all of their starting equipment from the database, so everything is blank.  Then for each class chosen, do a Change Weapon / Change Armor command to add each piece of desired equipment to inventory, and then use the Change Equipment command to actually equip it.


Hopefully that's all it is :)

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
Can someone recommend some fun story-heavy RPGs to me? Coming up with good gameplay is a nightmare! I was thinking of making some gameplay platforming-based, but that doesn't work well in RPG form*. I also was thinking of removing battles, but that would be too much like OneShot. I don't even know how to make good puzzles!
one bad plugin combo later and one of my followers is moonwalking off the screen on his own... I didn't even more yet on the new map lol.
time for a new avatar :)
