So after inadvertently losing a good chunk of progress to the "joy" of steam's cloud saving, I disabled this functionality. However, I still get prompted (only occasionally) about overwriting my newer project with the older cloud save. I decline. It happens anyway. Sometimes it does not even ask, and flattens my project. This has impeded my IGMC progress to the point of having me quit. Sadly, I will be going back to a personal project, in another engine.

Of note, this is the first time I have ever had such a problem with RPG Maker VX Ace. Does anyone know what's happened?

You can disable it in steam. It's a thing of steam.

It's also mentioned in the steam RM FAQs II in the General Discussions board.

As stated in my original question, I have done this; on all three of the computers I have used to work on this project, actually. After it prompted me about the cloud save being older and asking if it should overwrite my work (I declined; it overwrote anyway), I double-checked my steam settings and the box remained unchecked. Hence my confusion - this overwriting seemingly should not be occurring.

What I did was I moved my project to a new folder, changed the name of the folder, and opened the project from there. Steam Cloud now has no idea it exists or where it is, so it leaves me alone.

I will try that, thanks. Seems a bit silly that steam just keeps right on steamrolling (ha ha) one's project after you've told it to stop.

One caution if you do that. Never save a new project in the directory the project is in, ever. Once you do that, Steam will know it exists and will try to cloud synch your other projects in that directory as well.

(Personally, I just might go to a non steam version of RPG Maker for my next project. Steams been more a headache than it's worth).

In the "manage project" window you have the option of removing a project from cloud. If you do this, it will not prompt you again.

There are two problems with the cloud that cause all that confusion, but if you know those problems it's possible to prevent them.

1) New projects are saved to cloud by default - if you do not want this, you have to remove them from cloud by manage project directly after you created them.

2) Cloud saves are based on project name , NOT FOLDER. If you have two projects in different folders but with the same project name, cloud saving will clump them together - in fact the "manage project" window will only show one project with that name, the other projects in different folders with the same project name will not even be listed.

So - if you really need two projects with the same name, at minimum add a version number to the name.

Ah, thank you Andar. For all the messing about in VX Ace I've done, I really do have to wonder why this hasn't come to bite me sooner.
