ode School teaches web technologies in the comfort of your browser with video lessons, coding challenges, and screencasts.
I found this webpage because someone from an Student Organization posted it on FB and I think a lot of people are going to like this. I haven't check it out thoroughly but they teach you the basics for free and for 25/month you can learn a lot more about Ruby programming. I think a lot of people are going to find it useful. I am going to check it out tonight throughout this weekend and post more info about it.

But it's not free. You can learn new programming languages for free nowadays (especially if you have programming skills from another language). It might be easier for some people to pay for sites like these but personally I'm not too thrilled about it.

Can you recommend me one? Is it as interactive as this one? I need one where I won't get bored after 5 minutes.

I found this one accidentally. I am checking it now but seems legit, even though I prefer the one where you pay LOL. Event then I am going to try and use that one and see if I can learn how to get better at programming at Ruby and if it works I will make a thread about it! :)

I just hope in the next RPG Maker they add an IDE to make learning RGSS much easier.

I just hope they don't use Ruby anymore at all but use C instead :p . An IDE won't make it much easier I'd say. You can use an IDE already if you want. Just download one for Ruby and paste the finished script in RM. We can't expect the RM devs to implement a huge development environment like Visual Studio into RM. But there are quiet a few simple things that they should have add to RM to make scripting easier and better imo.

But if you know Ruby then RGSS = piece a cake. Just a matter of a few days messing around in the default code and pressing [F1] a lot.

I'd hate to code in C. It's like when I was coding in Python and people were like "ugh this is too slow LET'S JUST DO IT IN C"

Then again, I never started with C, so I don't actually know how hard it would be for a non-programmer to pick it up.

How how much effort would it take just to replicate the alias behavior?

You have a point there. C would be an even bigger pain for people without any programming experience than Ruby. But it gives experienced people much more control. I believe there is no such thing as an alias in C. But there is probably a good alternative for it. The biggest plus for me would be the huge amount of existing libraries. But the fact that it has an even bigger learning curve is probably enough reason not to implement it I'd say.

Anyway, as for the topic, I still think that you should try to learn Ruby using free available resources first ([F1], PDF's, official documentation, Youtube tutorials, etc.). Sure you won't get any nice video's explaining everything and you actually have to read through a hundred pages + exercises or so before you can comfortably use Ruby. But to spend money on that... Meh... A waste of money imo.

Also keep in mind that you can use another Ruby 'distribution' to get familiar with Ruby first. But RM uses a severely stripped down version of Ruby.

I am currently rubymonk. It is actually a good website to learn Ruby. I already know how to program easy stuff in python but Ruby is a different. I am pretty much between that and F1.

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
