Hey all;

Completely new to RPG maker, and I don't own it yet. I'm wondering if I can make an rpg that has, in combat, a quiz mechanic. So for instance;
Character attacks a monster; monster pops up a quiz
"What is the first letter of the alphabet? A, B, C, D"

If character chooses b/c/d, damage is reduced, or character takes damage from monster, but if answers A, then does damage/double damage.

Is something like this an option? If so, I'm going to buy the program and start playing around, but I don't even know how to search for this to answer it on my own.

Thanks, all!

In a way, RPG Maker MV follows a simple rule:
"If you want it done, there is a plugin for it. And if there isn't, one will be made."

@JtheDuelist Relying on plugins is too closed minded though. Many things, this is not an exception, can be done via eventing. For example if you take a look at Medieval cop on Kongregate... That's exactly the case being talked about here. With just a bit different mechanics.

Well, I'm still learning stuff about MV myself, having come off of FES, so excuse me, @Poryg...

I spent a lot of time in rm2003, there I had to event... Pretty much everything. :D No need to apologize though.
It's a well aimed advice nevertheless. Using plugins is nothing bad, but one should learn not to rely on them too much.

Yes, this can be done. I'm fairly sure that Poryg is correct and that this could be accomplished with just the RPG Maker software without any plugins. You'd want to look up some tutorials on eventing battle scenes.

Thank you all for your input. I'm going to have to learn whatever I wind up using from scratch, and both Unity and GameMaker Studio seem a bit more daunting than RPGM:MV, but I didn't want to spend the 50/80/whatever it is on Steam if it's not going to work at all. But if you think eventing in battle scenes can work, I'll nab it. It'll be worth the money anyways :)

Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
