Brand new to RPG maker, I want to make a game with it, but I a very specific combat system in mind that is more action oriented.  Will RPG maker will allow me to create the system I want, or am I forced to use a system that's like SNES Final Fantasy/Dragon Quest style?

Additional information for those who want to know:

For those of you who have played Quest for Glory 1, 2, or 3, I'm looking to create a system similar to that, for those who haven't, here's an example http://youtu.be/Pq7c9Znokp8

The player is using the numpad, he is locked into a kind of grid when he can move forward or backward 6 "squares" on the grid (assuming the enemy is not in the way), swings sword, parries, dodges, etc.

There are a lot of different battlescripts available on the master script list - thes go from ABS (action battle system on the maps, like Diablo series) over ATB/CTB (active time battles/ charge time battles) to turn-based battles and tactical battles


If none of the available scripts are similiar to what you want, you can request or commission anything you want - but with the work needed to make full battlescripts, the chances for a free request are usually low, and a custom battlescript commission usually goes above 100$ (might be far above depending on your specific wishes)

You can customize the battle system or change it completely all you want, It's just gonna require the use of scripts.

Sounds like I just found the game engine I want to use.  Thank you for the replies, learning scripting and coding is not a problem. I want to take as much time as possible to create exactly what I am picturing and to make sure it's good quality and fun to play.  Time isn't an issue, if it takes years to perfect then so be it.  I just didn't want to sink a ton of time into learning a game engine only to find out that it doesn't have the capabilities of producing what I want.  Thanks again!

Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
