I'm very excited to share some news with you. We have created a new area of the forums to house everything related to going commercial with your projects. The new area has three sections:

- Commercial RPG Maker discussion, where you can talk about the process of going commercial.

- Classifieds, where you can sell or buy services.

- Commercial Game releases, where you can post demos of your completed games and links to your purchase page.

Please note that there are some special rules in place in the commercial area. Make sure you've read them and followed any tagging/posting guides.

Our lovely moderators for the new section are Nathanial B. and Shaz. They both have hands-on experience with the commercial process, so they're a perfect fit for helping with commercial-related queries.

Over the next few days, we will be migrating some posts over to the new area. You may find some of your discussion thread(s) in the Commercial discussion, and your project recruitment threads in Classifieds.

So weird. Should work now though

I've also been up about around the clock, so I am not functioning perfectly. You should see how many times I had to edit the blog post I put up this morning.

yessssssssss

of course you realize that now we're going to have a lot of people trying to sell stuff that is nowhere near worth selling.

Then people won't buy it and they're most likely realize that they need to improve it if they want to sell it.

Seriously, what's the problem? There are many free projects that you could say the same about.

The problem lies in the difference that you have to pay for playing it? Nobody's forcing anyone to buy anything (as far as I know right now).

I think that is a really good move, to have a custom section to help independent developers.

In fact I am waiting with some sort of curiosity to see which game will show up there first. :p

People already try to sell games that are not worth selling. And people buy them :) I guess value is in the eye of the beholder.

There are sure some gorgeous games around that I'd like to see the creators try and sell.

I suppose the better the game, the higher the sales, so no big harm. :)

I think most people have enough of a head about them to avoid dropping $200.00+ before having a complete game with a fair amount of feedback... I'd like to think so, anyways. Haha.

I'm interested to see the price range that these'll be in...

The rules don't say one way or another... but will reviews and feedback be directed to the corresponding Completed Games thread? I think that the thread in CGR should be limited to issues with the actual payment or delivery... not for reviews etc.

dropping $200 where exactly? Oo

The price range so far has been mostly within the $10-20 range, with a few exceptions.

There is a tutorial posted in the CG forum that goes over the minimum that is generally required to publish/sell your game. State/City licenses, domains (monthly cost) etc. At the low end, it's around $150.00 to $200, not factoring in domain rights and some other things.

Of course... a person can just make a paypal account and email customers a mediafire link once payment is received... but at that point you already know that their game will be ****.

Oh... haha. My Bad. :p That'd have to be a damn good RM game to be worth $200.

Maybe you're reading too far into it. He never said it was a bad thing, just stating the obvious. And regardless, seeing somebody trying to sell a crap title for quick cash is always good for a laugh.

Yes, you'd want to be pretty serious about it, and know your game will sell, before you invest money in setting up a legal entity and making those purchases. Doing so is the "safe" way to go - it protects you and your property (unless you do something stupid, like steal resources), and it has tax benefits. Remember, once you're selling your game and you hit the magic number in profit, you've got to pay tax.

I just got a few questions in mind.

  • Is it good to have a introductory price (discounted price for a few weeks/months) in releasing a commercial game?
  • What if I'm still a student, having my project as an RM game and I'll release it commercially?

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
