Jayce and Stacy have been invited to a mysterious mansion for a party. What they find will shock you.


Solve Puzzles. Kill Zombies. Collect Beverages. Drink previously mentioned beverages. Destroy property and disrespect people like a real teenager would.

Stacy is an Social Justice Warrior because it's popular, not that she believes in any of it. What she doesn't know about being an SJW she tends to make up on the spot.


Jayce is a powerful star mage. Unfortunately none of his healing magic can keep up with Stacy's destruction.


Mana is a loser with no friends. Her laser sword is 100% original.


Claude might have gotten the wrong medication at the pharmacy. Now he thinks he is Sailor Banana, guardian of justice and love.

UPDATE:  It looks like excluding unused files prompts an error with Jayce's picture.  I am working on a fix now.


* I have found the cause of the error.  I used a plug in that sets portraits, but clicked exclude unused resources.  The exporter thought the portraits weren't used and nixed them.  I am re uploading the corrected folder for pictures now.  The issue will be solved in 20 minutes.

I want some of whatever you're on when you come up with ideas for Jayce and Stacy, Hallowthug.  This is a game where I truly worry about the mental health of the characters.  There are some issues that I'm guessing come from the rush to finish, but they don't take too much away from the game.  It's not a difficult game, and is amusing and doesn't overstay its welcome.  The puzzles were interesting and it was nice that they were all different.  Overall, this was a pretty fun game. :)   


Here are some of the errors I found:

- Some tree issues right outside the house
- In the menus there's a couple of places where spaces are missing in descriptions
- The 'puzzle solved' graphic gets cut off at the top of the screen
- Issues with passability settings, I can walk all over some tables & couches
- Could use the elevator right away, so Stacy ended up standing right next to Stacy while she dragged
Jayce up the stairs (did some cutscene get cut?)
- Some spelling errors, 'wierd' instead of 'weird', 'wraith' instead of 'wrath'
- Stacy gets to watch some of the cutscenes, since the player isn't made transparent (see grand salon)
- Can climb onto ceiling in the boiler room using the wires on the walls
- Final puzzle doesn't always activate if you click on the cubes, you have to click right under them
(confused me at first)

Hi there! Congrats to Palla and Zeigfried McBacon for finishing the game! I had a ton of fun and the characters are hilarious. Stacy is amazing, and of course I had to use her to kick the door in when the time comes ;)


Jayce was an intensely interesting character, and not just because of his wheelchair. I love his role as the voice of sanity for his sister. The sad thing for me is that I spent most of combat having him Guard, especially since the mid to late monsters don’t seem to hit enough for him to use his cool heals. More about him later.


Exploring the house was fun and I adored the puzzles. A lot of work must have gone into these, and it gives a good feel for the kind of gameplay we can expect when you next release a game featuring Jayce and Stacy. The busts by Maki are of course lovely, but you really blew it out of the ballpark with custom behavior poses like Jayce’s face after Stacy threw him into the house, and Claude’s Sailor Banana poses XD


Overall I had a blast with this game. I wish it was longer, of course, but love the ending. I just wished I could have gotten at least one shot of them descending on that cake before the credits ;)


There are a few issues I just wanted to bring up, although I realise you guys only had a month for this project!

This game has three different fonts - the two used in the title screen, and the one used in game. It is a bit strange to me, but ah well.


There were a few areas that could have benefited from sound effects. For instance:


  • The dog falling/hitting the pavement in the intro scene

  • Getting hit in combat - without the animation sounds, the combat seemed to lack a certain punch

  • Death in combat

  • Entering some rooms like the Dining Room - why does entering rooms require the action button? Is there a door there?

  • When using elevator from the first floor to return to the ground floor hallway. Also, perhaps Stacy should be facing down instead of Direction Retain?



I noticed 3 odd instances where a portrait would flash a millisecond before displaying the next text box - just before when Stacy says ‘Oops’ (after the Helen of Troy bit), or ‘Even garbage is made of star stuff’, or Jayce saying, ‘Come on Stacy, don’t fall behind!’ upon arriving at the house. Just thought that strange.


At the first puzzle, perhaps you should add a line saying something like, Use the mouse and touch the tile you want to move?


There were a few skills whose descriptions might be funny but I found their function unclear. Among them is Stacy’s skill Deal with It, which I thought at first was some kind of Reflect spell because it mentions ‘Stacy reflects on her actions’. As far as I know, it does some kind of damage?


Jayce’s Star Refresh also mentioned detox, which I was unsure what it meant until I used it to cure Poison. Other skills I found unclear: Privilege checker and Super Tazerific. Heck, I didn’t use Super Tazerific for the longest time because I thought it only affected Stacy. I only cast it during the final boss fight on a lark, and the skill turned out to be OP. This skill ended up winning that fight for me XD


Just my opinion, but I think the MechaZombie has way too much HP. His Ghost companion was long dead before I finally killed him. Even the final boss felt comparatively faster - of course, this was before I discovered Taserific


Iggy - ...Did I just microwave a human being for no reason?


You can interact with the cooler which mentions Iggy, when you may not have met the character before. I was slightly confused here XD


Battles


The skill names for the characters were perfect and suited their personalities.


As mentioned before, I ended up having Jayce not doing very much in battle! Edit: I usually had him Guard and break out with the occasional heal or detox spell. Otherwise I never ended up using Star Charge, likely meant for a longer game :)


The fight with the three zombies was especially tough in the beginning. Jayce died a few times until I had Stacy equip the SJW pin, then it became a matter of wearing them down with Punch Punch Punch before Stacy’s HP could reach 0.


I love Claude’s and Mana’s skills the best. Claude’s hilariously named Orange Dazzle and Apple Flash were used often, and I like Mana’s Icicle Uzi, Super Tazerific, Flamethrower, heck nearly all of her skills are cool!


The shifting modes of the final boss was clever. I thought Vamp (hot) meant he was hot, not an element? ;P

You used the word ‘edge’ and ‘side’ pieces to mean the same thing. IE Corner/Edge/Middle, and then you mention ‘8 are Side Pieces’. Perhaps you should stick to one term to avoid confusion?


 


Prism Puzzle - Find the Rainbow in the Dark. Click the prisms to change their color.


 


Alkorri: I was stuck at first and tried to leave, but there is no way to exit this puzzle? Also it took me ages to change the colours until I started clicking on the Numbers, instead of the prism itself. Perhaps you could clarify?


 





Things I loved


  • This was the best possible introduction you could have done for the game! You introduced four characters quickly and easily, in a memorable manner, and I could even recall their names afterwards. Bravo :)

  • Music was cool and always appropriate for the scene - I liked especially how you changed to a touching theme when Jayce said he couldn’t get up the front door stairs. I was expecting Stacy to help him up gently. Little did I know.

  • Good choice of windowskin

  • Favourite Skill - Handicapper - this skill demands an awesome animation!

  • Favourite Item - IGMC T-shirt XD
  • Favourite Line - Oppressively gender locked outfit was reluctantly acquired!

 


All in all, really fun game! Thank you for sharing that with us. I hope to see more of all these characters :)

As far as the battle stuff goes...


1) I made sure guarding was actually useful. try it!


2) Deal with it? I guess a few moves were added that even I wasn't aware of...


3) The last boss's name wasnt supposed to be that; those were testing names to make sure the mechanic even worked.


4)I wouldn't be surprised if palla and I come back to this and fix some stuff and add some extras.


I hope the battles were alright overall(the part I worked on mostly). I'm certainly open to critique and discussion in regards to them if brought to my attention.

Just completed this! Another congrats for finishing the game.


I know how close you guys were to the deadline, and the lack of solid testing does show - luckily it's nothing game breaking so I could enjoy the game from start to end. And enjoy I did; I love these zany characters! Battle wise, Jayce and Claude easily don't match up to the other two in usefulness, but I mean, I have a Stacy; what more do I even need?
Wait, we need Claude. Because Claude is the most precious one of all. <3


Would anything have happened differently if I hadn't

thrown Iggy in the microwave?

Played through this and enjoyed it. It was short and sweet. Funny descriptions and quirky dialogue were probably the highlight of the game.


I didn't come across much in the way of bugs, aside from a handful minor passability errors (if I remember correctly, I could walk right through some of the chairs and sofas, whilst the walls in the room with the butler didn't let me get closer to them by a whole tile), and also your character sprite being visible during the cutscenes which already show everyone, so you'd end up with 2 Stacy sprites in the room. :p


I like it how Jayce and Stacy have become a sort of fun duo to follow because how fun and light-hearted their adventures tend to be. I hope you make more games about them.


If you're thinking of expanding this game or making more, I'd like to suggest to have more variety in battle strategies. Though the skills each character had were nice and varied, most enemies and bosses behaved the same way, so every battle just felt like a DPS fest. The final boss seemed like you were up to something interesting. I assume the hot, cold, and magnetic forms changed his resistances perhaps? Or maybe special attacks? I didn't personally see much of a difference in terms of weaknesses and resistances, though perhaps I could be wrong.

We're currently involved in revision and testing to improve the game. 



If you are anticipating to play, the best time would be tomorrow morning when a new build is uploaded.  Thank you for your patience.  


UPDATE:  Thanks to @Alkorri a turn around of 8 hours has seen a vast improvement with all errors listed and has made improvements for clarification for the puzzles.  I am now turning my attention to @Matseb2611's concerns about battle.  I am revisiting the boss battles, and giving


some of the wandering trash a look over.  @zeigfried_mcbacon has gone over the enemies again and given a great deal of time.  I'll hopefully have a new version by the afternoon for those wishing to play.  The current version up is for the staff-so they can judge it accordingly in comparison to the other participants.  The new version will be given a separate download link and labeled.


Major-
New Behavior for Mana "Tazzerific!" Mana will now shock Claude and Stacy electrifying them.
The Butler, Lich, and Vampire have all be improved and adjusted.  If you don't debuff during these fights you may die.
Jayce now has a new spell "Star Shot" which does damage based on his missing hp.
Relic of Orion's Star and Banana Spiral Heart Scepter were added along with two optional boss battles near the final boss's door and the final puzzle.
All puzzle instructions have been clarified, and the final puzzle was redone to be smoother.
Stacy's "Handicapper" now has a fitting animation of launching Jayce at the enemy.
All passability bugs, dialogue errors, and switches have been fixed.  
Added various SEs.


Minor-
Trash Battles have had their stats adjusted.
Several New Icons were made including Jayce's "Star Wreath", Mana's "Tech Field", and Stacy's "Paci-FIST"


At Aklorri's request, a small cutscene has been added to the ending of the children eating cake.
Makio-Kuta was added the credits.
Alkorri was added the credits.


The New Build will be added by this evening.


*Testing continues.


You can now run from enemies, which will not disable the encounter but allow you to heal and return to try again without dying.


Bosses are now resistant to confusion and stop.


Stacy had her attack power adjusted.


Claude had his magical attack lowered.


Star Vivify now only works on dead allies, as intended.


Red Bull now only works on a dead ally as intended.


Hotpockets will restore your mana and drop from enemies.


Mundy and Dalph are being added to credits as testers.

Since this was (mostly) my department, Ill try to answer this one. The scope of the game is obviously quite small (max level being 5), and how I interpreted what palla wanted was basically keep the battles fairly quick, hence the DPS fest you mentioned(I mean no one really wants a 2 hour battle in a 30 minute game, do they? Didn't think so). I also used just the vanilla stuff provided with MV and no plugins (at least when I set the stuff up on my end).


The final boss is more or less inspired by the Magus fight from Chrono Trigger (I made sure it wasn't a total ripoff though). I'd strongly suggest giving that game a try @Matseb2611 or at least watching an LP; it's a true classic despite its  flaws. Anyways, I'm glad you enjoyed it, and the positive response I've gotten has pretty much ensured Ill be called upon from more stuff; Jayce and Stacey stuff at the very least if Palla decides to keep battles in future installments.
